Here’s a look at the East Region’s No. 1 through No. 16 seed teams, including the current odds on each team to win it all:
No. 1 Duke
- DraftKings Sportsbook +225
- FanDuel Sportsbook +220
- BetStars NJ +200
Duke is the odds on favorite to win it all this year. This is mostly because the ACC Tournament winning team is led by Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett, who are two projected to go first and second in the 2019 NBA Draft.
No. 2 Michigan State
- DraftKings Sportsbook +1700
- FanDuel Sportsbook +1400
- BetStars NJ +1600
Michigan State beat fierce state rival Michigan three times this season, including a victory in the Big Ten Tournament title game. The Spartans were one of only two teams in major conferences to win a conference title and tournament. However, not only did the NCAA selection committee snub the school by not making it a No. 1 seed, it made them a No. 2 in the East, where Duke is No. 1. The snub may well light a fire in the bellies of the Spartans.
No 3. LSU
- DraftKings Sportsbook +5000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +4000
- BetStars NJ +6600
This LSU Tigers team lost to Florida in the Southeastern Conference tournament quarterfinals dropping it from ninth in the AP Top 25 Poll to 12th. However, that’s the highest ranking an LSU team has achieved since 2000 when it was 10th. The last time the Tigers were even ranked on a season-ending AP Poll they were 21st in 2009. The time before that, LSU was ranked 19th in 2006 and made the Final Four.
No. 4 Virginia Tech
- DraftKings Sportsbook +3000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +4900
- BetStars NJ +6000
Virginia Tech was another one of Florida State’s victims in the ACC Tournament this year. As the tournament begins, the Hokies welcome back the 14.4 points and 5.5 assists per game Justin Robinson once provided, before he sat out for 12 games with a foot injury. Robinson is just the kind of ball handle, driver and shooter who can have a big impact on the NCAA Tournament.
No. 5 Mississippi State
- DraftKings Sportsbook +10000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +12000
- BetStars NJ +12000
This program has been outshined by the success of the school’s women’s basketball team. However, the Mississippi State Bulldogs men’s basketball team is making an appearance in the NCAA Tournament for this first time in a decade this year. Mississippi State has not reached the third round of the tournament since 1996, but they’ve got a shot now.
No. 6 Maryland
- DraftKings Sportsbook +15000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +16000
- BetStars NJ +10000
Maryland put together a 22-10 record this season but continued to disappoint when anything significant was on the line. They lost to a No. 13 seeded Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament and haven’t actually won a Big Ten or an NCAA Tournament game since 2016. Now, they’ll play the winner of a play-in game between No. 11 seeds Belmont and Temple and hope to turn things around against a team headed in a different direction at the moment.
No. 7 Louisville
- DraftKings Sportsbook +8000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +10000
- BetStars NJ +6600
Louisville is yet another ACC also-ran looking to prove they are no easy out. The Cardinals are favorites to win a first-round game this year, but not much else.
No. 8 VCU
- DraftKings Sportsbook +20000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +19000
- BetStars NJ +35000
VCU earned the top seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and was cruising toward the title and an automatic NCAA Tournament bid when they lost a game and their best player. The VCU Rams lost to the eighth-seeded Rhode Island Rams in the tournament final. Plus, all Atlantic 10 guard Marcus Evans went down with an injury during the loss. Now, VCU is a No. 8 seed who will likely have to face Duke in the second round if they get out of the first.
No. 9 UCF
- DraftKings Sportsbook +20000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +15000
- BetStars NJ +17500
UCF earned the first NCAA Tournament at-large bid in school history this year. It has been 14 years since the Knights were in an NCAA tourney game. Unfortunately, in all of the school’s previous four NCAA appearances, UFC lost in the first round.
No. 10 Minnesota
- DraftKings Sportsbook +30000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +19000
- BetStars NJ +30000
The Final Four is in its home state this year, but the Minnesota Golden Gophers have a tough row to hoe if they want to get there. Minnesota has won exactly one NCCA Tournament game since 1997 when they made a run to the Final Four. That’s a run that has since been vacated by the NCAA for various violations associated with an academic fraud scandal.
No. 11 Belmont/Temple
Belmont
- DraftKings Sportsbook +35000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +16000
- BetStars NJ +50000
The Belmont Bruins will have to play their way into the first round with a matchup against the Temple Owls. The good news is they face Maryland if they can do it; Maryland can be beaten.
Temple
- DraftKings Sportsbook +50000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +25000
- BetStars NJ +50000
At press time, the Temple Owls were still trying to play their way into the NCAA Tournament’s first round. However, should they get in, they’ll be coming in hot against a disappointing Maryland squad that can be upset.
No. 12 Liberty
- DraftKings Sportsbook +35000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +25000
- BetStars NJ +100000
Give me Liberty, or give me death. Liberty gave top-seed Lipscomb death in the final of the Atlantic Sun Tournament to win its way into the NCAA Tournament. Now, Liberty faces death at the hands of a No. 3 seed Virginia Tech who’s looking to survive and advance.
No. 13 St. Louis
- DraftKings Sportsbook +50000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +25000
- BetStars NJ +75000
St. Louis won four games in four days to win the Atlantic 10 Championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Now the Billikens are in the East Region with Duke and looking to stay hot.
No. 14 Yale
- DraftKings Sportsbook +50000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +25000
- BetStars NJ +100000
Yale upset Harvard in the Bookworm Bowl to win the Ivy League Tournament this year. Now they get to play lamb to the slaughter in a first-round matchup with a hungry LSU team, although early action has been coming in on Yale to cover.
No. 15 Bradley
- DraftKings Sportsbook +50000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +25000
- BetStars NJ +200000
The Bradley Braves finished fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference this year, but they managed to win the conference tournament. Next up, the vaunted Michigan State Spartans in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
No. 16 North Carolina Central/ North Dakota State
- DraftKings Sportsbook +100000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +100000
- BetStars NJ +250000
North Carolina Central faces North Dakota State in a First Four matchup with the No. 1-overall seeded Duke Blue Devils waiting in the wings to crush either team. An upset win in the MEAC Tournament can’t do much for them now.
North Dakota State
- DraftKings Sportsbook +100000
- FanDuel Sportsbook +100000
- BetStars NJ +50000
North Dakota State is making the school’s third NCAA Tournament appearance in the past six years, sort of. The team will have to play its way into the first round against North Carolina Central. Then, the No. 1-overall seeded Duke Blue Devils await.
