Is Online Gambling Legal In States Other Than New Jersey?

March 14, 2018
where is online gambling legal US

The history of online gambling in the United States is an interesting one. The commercial internet as we know it came into being in November 1992, but it wasn’t until May 1995 that the government dropped out of the project.

The first official online gambling site, Intertops.com, opened its “doors” in 1996 and was quickly followed by a torrent of other gambling sites offering services to anyone who wanted to place a bet.

In October 2006, there were more than 2,500 online gambling sites owned by 465 different companies.

Where is online gambling legal in the US?

Currently, online gambling is legal and regulated on a state level in New Jersey, Delaware, and Nevada. In October 2017, Pennsylvania joined the online gambling industry. It is expected to launch its iGaming sites and online poker later in 2018.

The legality of internet gambling is extremely complicated. Some countries have no laws regarding it, and others have legalized online gambling both within and outside their borders.

Some countries have made certain forms of gambling online legal and other forms illegal.

The United States has no federal laws that prevent internet gambling from a consumer-based standpoint; however, many individual states have such laws.

What kind of legal gambling is available online in Nevada and Delaware?

At the time of this writing, Nevada had three legal betting sites: WSOP.com, RealGaming, and WorldWinner.com. The first two sites offer online poker, and the third offers a variety of skill games.

Delaware is the new kid on the block, having legalized online gambling in 2013. Currently, there are four off-track horse and greyhound betting sites located within the state and three online casinos.

So is it legal to gamble online in other states?

The answer isn’t as easy as a simple yes or no. There is way too much gray area involved in the interpretation of the laws.

Add to that newer online gambling offerings like daily fantasy sports and esports betting, and you wind up with a patchwork of laws and non-laws across the nation.

What we do know is that, as of 2017, New Jersey has by far the most vibrant community for internet gamblers.

Where can players legally gamble online in New Jersey?

At the time of this writing, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has issued licenses to five different Atlantic City casinos and offers players a chance to wager on 20 different NJ online gambling websites.

Customers may be able to gamble in other states, but the best online gambling is taking place in New Jersey.

VirginCasino.com, for example, offers a free $20 sign-up bonus for all new players. Simply enter the Virgin Casino online bonus code, 20BUCKS, when you sign up for a new account and enjoy the freeplay.

In addition to the free $20, Virgin has a $100 cash back refund on first deposits. This means players can effectively sign up for an account on VirginCasino.com and gamble $120.

New Jersey also recently saw the launch of PokerStarsNJ.com. Without a doubt, PokerStarsNJ is the best place to play legal online poker anywhere in the nation. PokerStarsNJ will give players a 100 percent first-time deposit bonus up to $600. Enter bonus code STARS600 to get started.

We also recommend several other online gambling sites within New Jersey, including BetfairCasino.com, GoldenNuggetCasino.com, and TropicanaCasino.com. All these sites have wonderful first-time deposit bonuses and a myriad of fun and exciting NJ online casino games to explore.

With any luck, more states will follow suit and regulate online gambling in the near future, but for the time being Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware are the only legal options.

Obviously, if you reside within the states of Nevada or Delaware, you will be doing most of your online gambling there. But if you are looking for a great place to travel and want a fantastic gambling destination, skip Las Vegas and come to Atlantic City.

Not only does New Jersey have world class resorts and casinos, it offers the best legal online gambling in the country. If you live nearby, why not jump on a train and come to New Jersey to play some great online games?

What Are The Main Differences Between Roulette Games Found At Online Casino Sites In NJ?

March 17, 2017
NJ online roulette games

Most roulette players don’t realize just how different some forms of roulette are from others.

There are many factors to take into consideration before deciding what roulette games to play, and it isn’t just a matter of a zero or two.

Luckily, we have taken the time to look into several house rules that can have a huge effect on the long-term success of your play.

What are the best online roulette games in the NJ online casino market?

In our opinion, the best roulette games to play at New Jersey online casinos are those that use European Roulette, as these have only about half the house edge of double zero games.

It uses the “half-back” rule (la partage) that allows players to only lose half their bet when a zero is called. In other variations when a zero is called, players lose their entire wager.

European Roulette is offered at most online New Jersey casinos, but our favorite places to play are GoldenNuggetCasino.com, Betfair.com, TropicanaCasino.com, and VirginCasino.com.

What are the different variations of NJ online roulette?

There are three different variations of roulette offered at New Jersey online casinos:

  • Roulette Royale
  • Three Wheel Roulette
  • Bonus Spin Roulette

Roulette Royale is pretty close to standard roulette, but it has a few more side bets available to players. It has a single zero, and the la partage rule is in effect. This makes Roulette Royale one of the better games to play.

Three Wheel Roulette offered at Betfair.com is exactly what it sounds like and is a ton of fun to play.

In this game, players bet on three individual wheels. There are different winners on each, but a player can have the same number win on all three. There is only one zero on each wheel, but when a zero is called, players will lose their entire wager as the la partage rule is not in effect.

Three Wheel Roulette allows for some interesting side bets that the casino calls “Color Up.”

Color Up payouts are the following:

  • Color Up (all three numbers are same color): Push
  • Pair (two of three numbers are same): 5-1
  • Straight (three numbers are connected): 25-1
  • Pair zeros: 50-1
  • Triplet: 100-1
  • Triplet zeros: 1,000-1

The last variation of roulette we want to mention is Bonus Spin Roulette. It is available on GoldenNuggetCasino.com and Betfair.com.

In this variation on the classic game, there are two zeros and a yellow well that is 50 percent larger than the rest of the numbers. You can bet the yellow well as a number, but it only pays one-third of a standard wager.

If the ball is called yellow, two blue lights appear. The lights land on two other numbers and all bets are paid. With a house edge of only 1.97 percent, Double Bonus Spin Roulette is well worth trying.

Once you figure out what type of roulette you want to play, the differences between the games are minimal, mostly the minimum and maximum bets that can be wagered.

What are the recommended roulette games to play online in New Jersey?

Here is a list of our favorite roulette games, their payback percentages, and their minimum and maximum bets on each table.

Casino Game Name Payback % Min. Bet Max. Bet
Virgin Casino American Roulette 94.74 – 97.36 $0.10 $1,000
Virgin Casino Single Zero Roulette 97.3 $0.10 $1,000
Virgin Casino High Stakes Single Zero Roulette 97.3 $10.00 $4,000
Tropicana Casino American Roulette 94.74 – 97.36 $0.10 $1,000
Tropicana Casino Single Zero Roulette 97.3 $0.10 $1,000
Tropicana Casino High Stakes Single Zero Roulette 97.3 $10.00 $4,000
Golden Nugget Roulette 97.3 $1.00 $1,000
Golden Nugget Roulette Master 97.3 $0.01 $1,000
Golden Nugget Double Bonus Spin Roulette 98.06 $1.00 $1,000
Golden Nugget Roulette European 97.3 $1.00 $500
Golden Nugget American Roulette 94.74 $1.00 $500
Betfair Casino 3 Wheel Roulette 97.3 $0.10 $1,000
Betfair Casino Double Bonus Spin Roulette 98.06 $0.10 $5,000
Betfair Casino Roulette Royal 97.3 $1.00 $5,000
Betfair Casino Roulette 97.3 $0.10 $5,000

If you’ve ever played live roulette, you know it can be a slow game. Players are frantically placing wagers between spins and confusion is rampant. Add dealer errors to the mix and the pace of action can slow to a crawl.

When you play online however, all of these negative factors are eliminated. Roulette played at any of the New Jersey online gambling websites will have all the same action you love in a fraction of the time!

What No Deposit Bonuses Do Legal New Jersey Online Poker Sites Offer New Players?

March 16, 2017
wad of cash

At the time of this writing there are five online poker sites that are regulated and legal in the state of New Jersey.

Three of the sites offer no deposit bonuses for players who want to try out their software, and the other two offer great welcome packages to get you started.

What are the different no deposit bonuses available at NJ poker sites?

Party Poker

The biggest no deposit bonus offered by a New Jersey online poker site is from Party Poker (NJ.PartyPoker.com).

When you sign up as a new player, the site will give you a free $25; but like all no deposit bonuses, the money comes with some strings attached.

The free $25 Party Poker offers is actually broken up into three separate chunks:

  • $10 in poker money
  • $10 in casino chips
  • $5 in poker tournament tickets

Fortunately, the playthrough requirements for this promotion are very lax.

To cash out the $10 in poker money, all you must do is play a single hand at a real money table. To cash out the casino chips, you must play through the funds only once.

BorgataPoker.com

BorgataPoker.com will give you a free $20 in bonus cash to try out its software. After you successfully sign up for an account, you will receive $10 in cash and $10 in poker bonus.

As you begin to play real money poker on its site and contribute to rake and/or tournament fees, you will earn iRewards Points (iRP). To withdraw the $10 in cash, you must first earn one iRP. Once you have earned 40 iRPs, your $10 poker bonus will be credited to your account.

888 Poker NJ

The last no deposit bonus available is at 888Poker.com. 888 offers new players a total of $10 in free money that is broken down into $4 in cash and six $1 tournament tickets.

The $4 in cash is not considered a pending bonus and can be withdrawn immediately upon successful creation of an account.

Welcome packages available from real money online casinos in NJ

PokerStars New Jersey

Unfortunately, our two favorite places to play online poker in New Jersey do not currently offer no deposit bonuses to new players. But they do have great welcome packages and the largest player pools of any New Jersey online poker sites.

PokerStarsNJ.com will give you a free $30 to play on its site and a ticket to the $5,000 Depositor Freeroll played on the last Sunday of every month. All you have to do to claim your $30 in free play is deposit $20 in your PokerStarsNJ.com account and enter bonus code FREE30.

The first $15 of your bonus will be credited to your account within 36 hours of your deposit, along with the $5000 Depositor Freeroll ticket. The final $15 of your free money will be credited to your account seven days after your first deposit.

You can also take advantage of PokerStarsNJ.com’s $600 first deposit bonus. When you enter bonus code STARS600 and deposit on its site, you will receive a 100 percent bonus up to $600.

The first deposit bonus will be released in $10 increments every time you earn 100 VPPs (PokerStarsNJ.com’s frequent player points).

WSOP NJ

WSOP.com will match your first deposit 100 percent up to $400, and if you make a deposit of as little as $10, you will receive seven $100 freeroll tickets exclusive to new players.

These $100 freerolls take place nightly at 7 p.m. and are a great way for new players to build a bankroll.

The $400 match bonus is released in much the same way as PokerStarsNJ.com’s first deposit bonus. The first $10 in bonus money is released in $1 increments; the next $40 is released in $5 increments; and the remaining $350 is released $10 at a time.

What Are The Most Common Promotions Run By Real Money New Jersey Online Casino Sites?

March 15, 2017
common NJ online gambling promo types

There are so many different kinds of promotions run by New Jersey online casinos that it is sometimes hard to wrap your head around which ones are best. Promotions great for one individual might not be worth anything to someone else.

For example, no deposit bonuses may be the best option for someone who has limited funds, whereas a match bonus is a much more ideal promotion for someone with a comfortable bankroll.

Typical promotions available at legal NJ casinos online

The most common types of promotions offered by New Jersey online gambling websites are:

  • No deposit bonuses
  • Free games
  • Deposit bonuses
  • Cash back deposit bonuses
  • Player rewards
  • Random drawings

What are NJ online casino no deposit bonuses?

No deposit bonuses are pretty much self-explanatory. They are a predetermined amount of money that New Jersey online casinos will give you to try out their software.

For example, when you sign up for a new account on TropicanaCasino.com or VirginCasino.com, and you use their respective promotional codes (PLAY20 for TropicanaCasino.com and 20BUCKS for VirginCasino.com), the sites will deposit $20 in your account.

Once you meet or exceed the playthrough requirements, you then have the option of cashing out the funds.

How do free NJ online casino games work?

Free games function much the same way as no deposit bonuses.

Instead of a dollar amount, you will receive a number of free spins on the casino’s slots. One advantage of free games is that once they are played, any funds you acquire can be cashed out immediately.

If you would like to try a free game promotion, HarrahsCasino.com will give you 20 free spins on selected slots. We tend to like no deposit bonuses better however, due to the fact that you have more options available when it comes to game selection.

What is the difference between NJ casino deposit bonuses and cash back deposit bonuses?

Deposit bonuses and cash back deposit bonuses are other common online casino promotions.

If you go to a popular online New Jersey casino, such as Betfair.com, and make a first-time deposit, it will match your funds 100 percent up to $1500.

There are usually pretty stringent playthrough requirements for these bonuses, but it’s a huge mistake not to take advantage of this free money if you’re considering a deposit into a New Jersey casino site.

TropicanaCasino.com and VirginCasino.com take a bit of a different approach to rewarding first-time customers. Rather than offering a large match bonus, these sites guarantee that you won’t lose your first $100.

If you deposit $100 in your account and lose, these sites will refund the $100 (or whatever percentage you lost up to $100) in full. This promotion is a great way to try out the Tropicana and Virgin casino software with no financial risk.

Do all NJ gambling sites offer player rewards?

Player rewards are offered at all online casinos. Some rewards programs are better than others, but for the most part, they function the same way.

Based on what games you play and the amount of money you wager, you will earn frequent player points. These points can later be traded for cash or a multitude of other prizes.

GoldenNuggetCasino.com, for example, gives you Golden Points. Golden Points have a value of $1 per 100 points and can be earned in a variety of different ways.

  • $100 wagered on slots will earn five Golden Points
  • $100 wagered on table games, blackjack, roulette, or video poker will earn one Golden Point
  • Every day a real money wager is played: 10 points
  • Every day the patron deposits between $50 and $99: 20 points
  • Every day the patron deposits $100 or more: 40 points

As you play, the points pile up. Another great thing specific to GoldenNuggetCasino.com’s player rewards program is that once your Golden Points have been converted to cash, they can be withdrawn from your account immediately with no further restrictions.

How do random drawings work at real money casinos online in NJ?

The last ubiquitous promotion found at New Jersey online casinos are random drawings. Play at any number of New Jersey online casinos and you will have your name entered into raffles for a variety of prize packages.

For instance, last fall at VirginCasino.com, a trip to the Rocky Mountains in Aspen, Colorado (valued at $4,000) was up for grabs. For every $50 you wagered, you earned a ticket into the drawing.

There are other promotions, but these are by far the most common. With all the different online casinos competing for your business, no matter what your gambling style, you should be able to find the perfect promotion for you.

What Are The Advantages Of Playing Online Table Games Vs. Live Table Games In New Jersey?

March 14, 2017
playing poker on the couch

For more than 100 years, the only way to play table games was to travel great distances to casinos. Not only would you have to put up with drunken buffoonery, you would have to deal with parking, cigarette smoke, and dealer mistakes.

That is all behind us now that New Jersey online casinos are offering a wide variety of table games you can play from the comfort of your own home.

All New Jersey online casinos offer some form of table games, and with rock bottom house edges and fast-paced action, New Jersey online table games are the place to be.

What are the advantages of playing real money NJ online table games?

Going to a brick and mortar casino is definitely still an option while you are in Atlantic City, and it comes with some benefits, such as socializing, free drinks, and proximity to other casino games you may be interested in playing. But truth be told, you don’t always want to leave the house.

The convenience and relaxation of playing from your living room couch after putting the kids to bed is an unmistakable advantage.

There are not a lot of things better than being able to open up an online craps table on your computer or mobile devices, put on your favorite music, and watch piles of chips slide toward you across a virtual table.

What are the minimum table bets at online casinos in New Jersey?

Another great advantage to playing online table games is that the minimum bets are much smaller than they are at their land-based counterparts.

BetfairCasino.com allows you to bet as little as a dollar on most of its table games. This gives you many more hours of entertainment for your money, and that’s just what recreational players are looking for.

What types of table games can I play at NJ gambling websites?

There is also a wide variety of table games to choose from, and it only takes a couple clicks to move from one game to another. At the time of this writing, BetfairCasino.com offers an unrivaled 17 different table games.

Some of our favorites to play on BetfairCasino.com include Double Bonus Spin Roulette, No Commission Baccarat, and craps. With so many games to choose from, it’s difficult to go wrong.

Do online casino sites in NJ offer player rewards programs?

In addition to BetfairCasino.com’s game selection, the convenience of at-home play, and the ability to place smaller wagers, Betfair.com has a great VIP rewards program and a huge 100 percent first-time deposit bonus of up to $1,500.

Keep in mind that when you are clearing your New Jersey online casino bonus, table game play will only count 10 percent toward your playthrough requirements.

BetfairCasino.com’s standard requirement to clear bonuses is 20 times the deposit bonus, which mean that when you play table games it is going to end up being 200 times the bonus amount.

This may seem like a steep requirement, but the house edge on most table games, as compared to slots online in NJ, is much much lower, and you’ll end up clearing your bonus much more quickly than you would expect.

Other online New Jersey casinos offering a wide selection of fun and exciting table games include GoldenNuggetCasino.com, which is currently also the only site offering live dealer games, VirginCasino.com, and TropicanaCasino.com.

You will be happy with any of these casinos, but before signing up, be sure to check out the buy-in bonuses and no deposit bonuses they are currently offering.

We are certain that once you get started with online table games you will think back to the days when you had to physically go to the casino to play and wonder why you ever bothered. Your neighbors may even begin to wonder why they keep hearing you yell “Yo!” at all hours of the night.

Which New Jersey Online Casinos Support Mobile Play?

March 13, 2017
best NJ mobile casino apps

Are you stuck in a line? Are you waiting for your wife to find the perfect shoes or is your husband busy discussing the latest football game you care nothing about?

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a fun and exciting way to pass the time?

Well, that’s the niche casino mobile apps are trying to fill and almost all New Jersey online casinos offer mobile play for their customers.

What is the best NJ mobile casino app?

There are a few games that inherently work better for mobile play than others. With complex table games, it is sometimes difficult to fit all the information on such a tiny screen.

In recent years, however, mobile screens have continued to increase in size and thus the mobile gaming experience offered by casinos has improved dramatically.

We tested the mobile apps of all the best casinos online in New Jersey and found that our favorite was offered by VirginCasino.com.

VirginCasino.com’s app can easily be downloaded from the App Store or from Google Play and functions best on iOS 6.0 or Android operating systems 2.3 and above.

As stated before, you can find mobile apps for all New Jersey online gambling websites, but unfortunately, at the time of this writing, most apps are somewhat lacking. The game selection on mobile apps is limited as compared to their desktop or browser-based software and there tends to be less user functionality in regards to player accounts.

Some casinos, such as 888casino.com, don’t even offer a mobile app for Android devices, which is, in our opinion, completely unacceptable.

If you are going to give mobile gaming a shot, try out a few different apps and see which ones you like best. VirginCasino.com offers our favorite, but the apps offered by TropicanaCasino.com, BetfairCasino.com, and GoldenNuggetCasino.com are well worth trying.

These casinos have apps that function smoothly on iOS devices as well as Android devices and if they have the games you are looking for, there is no reason why you shouldn’t give them a shot.

With that in mind, be sure to take advantage of casino promotions on any site you end up playing on your mobile device.

How many games are available on VirginCasino.com’s NJ app?

After a quick download of the iOS 6.0 app, we were able to determine that there were 48 games available for play. As is the case with all New Jersey online casino apps (excluding poker), the vast majority of games are variations of popular slot machines.

If you’d like to try out the mobile app, VirginCasino.com offers a no deposit bonus of $30 when you sign up for a new account and use promo code 30BUCKS.

You will find that the smoothness of gameplay and presentation make VirginCasino.com’s mobile app one of the best in the industry.

What is the best mobile online poker app in New Jersey?

If you are in the mood for something a little different, poker on mobile apps works very well.

The PokerStarsNJ.com mobile app in particular is a great way to pass the time and allows you to play both cash games and tournaments with convenience.

The PokerStars app, like VirginCasino.com’s app, works best with iOS 6.0 or Android operating systems 2.3 and higher. You can download the app from the App Store on your Apple device or directly from PokerStarsNJ.com for your Android.

PokerStars also has a couple of other poker apps for your phone including PokerStars TV, where you can watch all the latest videos from the world of poker and a handy PokerStars Clock that will help you manage a home tournament.

As incentive to play on PokerStarsNJ.com, the NJ site offers new players a welcome package that includes a 100% match bonus up to $600 when you sign up for a new account and use bonus code STARS600.

Which New Jersey Online Casinos Are Legal And Safe?

March 12, 2017
safe legal NJ online casino site

Sometimes it is confusing with the number of illegal online casinos still operating in the United States to know which casinos are safe and legal.

Many online poker players, in particular, have terrible memories of poker sites being shut down overnight and losing their hard-earned funds. It is no wonder why so many players are reticent to play online in New Jersey.

Playing legal makes a difference

Fortunately, there are now safe NJ online gambling sites licensed and operated within the state. These sites function under strict regulations, so New Jersey players can be sure that their funds are safe and the games are fair.

In January 2011, the New Jersey Legislature passed a bill sponsored by Raymond Lesniak to allow online gambling by New Jersey residents over the age of 21, and in November 2013, the state issued the first gambling licenses to New Jersey online casinos.

Some of these sites, like BetfairCasino.com, proudly display the New Jersey Department of Gaming Enforcement emblem on its homepage to give customers some peace of mind. Other sites tuck their licensure away in difficult-to-find locations. This makes it all but impossible to know whether you are playing on a legal New Jersey site or at a casino that may very well be a fly-by-night operation if you’re simply browsing the web.

A quick search online will find hundreds of casinos willing to take your money, but despite what some people would have you believe, there are only five authorized sites in New Jersey. What is confusing to a lot of customers is that each of these sites operates a minimum of two casinos.

So which New Jersey online casinos are safe and legal?

We only list online casinos and poker sites licensed by the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement.

Here’s our updated list of legal NJ online gambling sites.

The good news is that this list contains all of the internet gambling you could ever desire, including huge selection of slots, table games, and live poker.

The largest of NJ’s legal online casinos

In September 2016, the Golden Nugget Atlantic City overtook Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa for the largest market share in the state. It offers a unique gaming environment, as well as the largest first-time deposit bonus in the industry.

GoldenNuggetCasino.com has changed the face of online gambling with its live dealer games. When playing on its online casino, you can actually sit at a virtual table being streamed live to your desktop or mobile app and communicate with the dealer and other players while playing blackjack, roulette, or baccarat. It’s the closest you will come to a real casino experience while in the comfort of your own home.

GoldenNuggetCasino.com also has a great welcoming package in which it will match your first deposit up to $1000.

Golden Nugget Atlantic City also operates another one of our favorite casinos. BetfairCasino.com boasts the largest first-time deposit bonus of any New Jersey online casino. On this site you will receive a staggering $1500 match play when you sign up for a new account.

Regardless of what casino you choose, you can rest assured that your money is safe and legal at any site listed here. All of these casinos are under strict regulations by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

What Do New Jersey Online Casinos Do To Fight Problem Gambling?

March 11, 2017
NJ problem gambling help

With so many games and the ability to gamble online with only a few clicks, it’s always a question whether technology can exacerbate problem gambling.

Despite the best efforts of New Jersey online casinos and their land-based counterparts, problem gambling can be an issue.

The basics of problem gambling

Gambling addiction, or compulsive gambling, is a type of impulse-control disorder. People who suffer from compulsive gambling are unable to control the impulse to gamble even when they know they are hurting themselves and the people they love. They will continue to gamble under dire circumstances when they know they can’t afford to lose and the odds are stacked against them.

Compulsive gamblers are found in all age groups, income levels, cultures, and careers.

Some people develop gambling problems over many years, while other gambling problems seem to appear suddenly.

Regardless, New Jersey online casinos have your best interest in mind, and if you think you may have a gambling problem, the best thing you can do is seek professional help.

NJ problem gambling resources

If you believe that you or someone close to you is having problems as a result of gambling, you should call the 24/7, toll-free New Jersey Telephone Hotline at 1-855-222-5542 for free confidential help. The gambling hotline is for anyone who needs help with a gambling problem or anyone interested in helping a friend or family member.

The hotline is divided into three segments: connection to volunteers, directions to New Jersey-based Gamblers Anonymous meetings, and requests for information regarding problem gambling.

With the convenience of online gambling, it’s sometimes hard to know whether you have a gambling problem or whether you have just let yourself get carried away. However, if gambling is affecting your life in a negative way, it’s always best to take a more conservative approach and stop before things get completely out of hand.

Tools at NJ online casinos for responsible play

For players with some propensity toward problem gambling, but are not compulsive gamblers, there are several safety measures online casinos have in place to ensure you set realistic gambling limits.

All New Jersey online casinos have similar measures to keep players in check and are very transparent about the measures they take to prevent problem gambling. The goal with online gambling is never to ruin people’s lives, but to provide a healthy form of entertainment individuals can enjoy without having to venture into brick and mortar casinos.

If you need tools to keep playing within the realm of wholesome entertainment rather than crippling addiction, casinos all have player protection built into their software.

For instance, VirginCasino.com allows you to set your deposit limits on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. You can also set a spending limit for your account and a time limit for each session. If you feel like you have been gambling too much, VirginCasino.com also allows you set a cooling off period: from 72 hours up to three months. This will allow you to put things in perspective and slow down if your gambling has become a problem.

How to self-exclude at NJ online gambling sites

Finally, if none of these measures help you to gamble responsibly, you can request to exclude yourself from accessing your online account through the New Jersey Casino Gambling Self-Exclusion Program for a period of one to five years.

Again, if you think you or someone you know has a gambling problem, please call 1-855-222-5542 to receive free confidential help.

How Can The Mohegan Sun Have A New Jersey Online Casino When It’s In Connecticut?

March 9, 2017
Mohegan Sun NJ online casino real money

Online gambling became legal in the state of New Jersey in 2013. This opened the window of opportunity to many casinos operating in Atlantic City.

But how does a casino like the Mohegan Sun operate legally within the state of New Jersey when it is located in Connecticut?

Mohegan has land-based connection in Atlantic City

The Mohegan Sun (mohegansuncasino.com) may be located within the state of Connecticut, but it exists under an umbrella corporation that operates Resorts Casino Hotel, which is located within the state of New Jersey.

It’s through that relationship and New Jersey gambling license that Mohegan is able to offer an online casino in NJ.

You can rest assured that when you deposit funds on MoheganSunCasino.com they are completely safe and the games you play are fair, regulated, and legal.

Inside Mohegan’s online rewards program

The Mohegan Sun Casino has six membership levels when you sign up for an account. The first level is Amber Membership, for which you meet the requirement just by making your first deposit. Then, by earning a qualifying number of “Gems” in a month, you will move up to the next level, Garnet.

As you move up the ranks in Mohegan Sun’s loyalty program, you will receive larger and larger amounts of money for the number of Gems you earn. For example, when you are Amber level, 100 Gems will earn you $1 in cash, but when you reach Garnet level, it will only take 67 Gems to receive the same award. Mohegan Sun’s top rewards level is Sapphire, and you will receive $1 for every 14 Gems you earn. This comes out to be one of the best rewards programs New Jersey has to offer.

Also, keep in mind that Mohegan Sun has a competitive welcoming package that includes a 100-percent match bonus of up to $1000 for players depositing into their accounts for the first time.

PokerStars operates under same NJ license

PokerStarsNJ.com has an excellent welcoming package that includes at 100-percent match play for new players up to $600. You can also receive a free $30 with bonus code “FREE30” when you deposit $20 on its site. To receive the match play bonus, simply deposit money with bonus code “STARS600,” and you will be good to go.

Online poker in the state of New Jersey is not as popular as casino gaming, most likely due to smaller prize pools, but PokerStarsNJ.com has come up with a great new way to play poker that addresses this issue.

PokerStars’ Spin & Go’s start when three players are seated. The prize pool is then selected at random for an amount of up to 10,000 the initial buy-in. This makes Spin & Go’s a fun and exciting way to play poker and win slot-sized jackpots.

Alternatives in the NJ online casino market

If you are not sure you want to play at Resorts Casino Hotel or an affiliated casino, you may want to take a look at some of the other casinos available.

VirginCasino.com and TropicanaCasino.com will both let you try out their software with a free $20. When you sign up for an account on VirginCasino.com, enter bonus code “20BUCKS” for a free $20 to try out its software, and enter bonus code “PLAY20” on TropicanaCasino.com for a free $20 there.

How Safe Is My Money At A Legal NJ Online Gambling Site?

March 8, 2017
Nj online casino site security

With a long history of less-than-reputable online casinos serving players in the US, players may worry about how safe their funds really are in legal online casinos in NJ.

What stops a company operating a regulated NJ gambling site from taking your money?

What casinos back NJ’s online gambling sites?

There are currently only five authorized casinos that are licensed and regulated by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

This may come as a surprise, as it seems there are so many places from which to choose. However, the truth is only the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Caesars Interactive Entertainment, Gold Nugget Atlantic City, Resorts Casino Hotel, and Tropicana Casino and Resort have licenses to operate NJ online casinos within the state.

Of course, all of these casinos offer multiple online casino platforms to access their sites.

For example, Resorts operates not only Resortscasino.com and Mohegansuncasino.com; they also hold the licensing for Pokerstarsnj.com.

All the casinos that operate online gambling sites in New Jersey are reputable companies that have gone through all the proper channels to ensure the safety of online gaming funds. They are licensed and insured.

Online gambling sites in NJ as safe as cash at the casino

If you feel your funds are safe tucked inside the cage at the Tropicana, you should feel the same level of safety with your funds in an account at its site.

A lot of the concern over the safety of online gambling and what happens when a company goes out of business stems from the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act) that passed back in 2006.

More specifically, the fear points toward the event poker players call “Black Friday,” which occurred in April 2011. The DOJ swooped in and shut down all the major online poker sites that were operating in violation of UIGEA. All player funds were locked in their accounts. With no way to withdraw the funds, and no way to log onto the sites, hundreds of thousands of people felt that their funds were lost.

As it turned out, this wasn’t the case. PokerStars (now operating legally in New Jersey) was running everything on the up and up. It had player funds separated from corporate funds and when the DOJ cracked down, it almost immediately gave everyone the balance of their accounts.

However, Full Tilt did not have player accounts separate from corporate accounts, and player funds were seized along with its other assets. This made it impossible for Full Tilt to refund players in a timely fashion. After much legal trouble, PokerStars ended up purchasing Full Tilt, and the acquisition required PokerStars to pay back all the Full Tilt customers in full.

In the meantime, many players didn’t have access to their bankrolls for more than a year. It is only logical that people would fear depositing and playing online under these circumstances. But the days of fly-by-night gambling operations are behind us.

The fact that online casinos are licensed and legal makes all the difference

With online gambling legal in the state of New Jersey and online casinos, such as Betfair.com and GoldenNuggetCasino.com, having full backing from the huge brick and mortar casinos in Atlantic City, gambling online no longer has to be a shady operation.

You can be sure that when you deposit funds at TropicanaCasino.com or PokerStarsNJ.com, your funds are as safe as they would be locked away in the cage at Caesars Palace.

As long as you are depositing in a New Jersey online casino that is licensed by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, you can be sure your funds are safe.
