FOX Bet NJ Sportsbook Review

FOX Bet launched its NJ sports betting app in September, 2019.

The FOX Bet sportsbook in New Jersey is a partnership between Resorts Atlantic City and the Stars Group, the same company behind the popular PokerStars NJ app.

The Stars Group partnered with FOX Sports, the result of which is a rebrand of the BetStars app to FOX Bet which completed on August 31, 2019.

The Stars Group may be based on the Isle of Man, but the company now has strong brand recognition in New Jersey with the PokerStars NJ, PokerStars Casino, and now the FOXBet app.

The on-property sportsbook at Resorts AC is entirely separate from FOX Bet.

Summary

FOX Bet is the NJ sports betting arm of The Stars Group and PokerStars NJ. The connection means New Jersey players have a shared wallet between the accounts. FOX Bet is available for iOS and Android users, and added a browser access option a couple months later. However, the ease of use and the cash-out option surely give it a leg up on its rivals in the market.

Types of wagers on FOX Bet New Jersey

The FoxBet.com app includes a full range of betting options. On some events, the minimum bet ranges between 1 cent and 10 cents.

Straight bets

Moneyline is as basic as it gets. The favorite is posted with a three-digit number next to the minus sign while the underdog has a three-digit number next to a plus sign. The San Francisco 49ers, for instance, are listed at +370 against the San Diego Chargers. If they were to pull off the upset, the bettor would win $370 for every $100 wagered.

Point spreads are another preferred play for football games. You need to decide if you want to side with the favorite (giving up the points) or the underdog (getting the points). These can get rather intriguing, especially when underdogs are double figures in points.

Some may recall the Buffalo Bills going off as 16.5-17 point dog against the Minnesota Vikings. The Bills ended up winning the game in such convincing fashion that they became the favorite in late-game, live betting.

Total points, also known as the over/under, is merely deciding which side of the line the final score will fall.

Parlays

A parlay is a single bet where you pick the winner of two or more sporting events, and each of the selections needs to win. FOX Bet offers up to a 20-team parlay. A winning ticket will produce a higher payoff than the individual bets.

Round-robin

The round-robin is a combination of parlay bets paired together. The FOX Bet platform helps create many possible combinations.

Prop bets

These wagers tie into a particular event within the game such as which player will score the first touchdown, how many yards a running back will get, or who will hit the first home run in a baseball game.

Futures

Future betting involves making a wager on a future event. This bet is a way to lay money on a longshot with a potentially big payout.

In-game bets

These options are displayed under the “In-game” tab (located to the right of the main bet types). The number of available bets for a particular sporting event will be highlighted in red. There is not a set number.

Cashing out

You have the option to accept a payout on a wager before the chosen pick(s) closes. Your cash out maybe for a profit or a loss, depending on the situation.

Increase the odds

“Spin & Bet” is described on the website as a “game-changing” feature exclusive to FOX Bet, and it gives you an opportunity to enhance the odds on a potential winning ticket.

Odds boost

The Stars Stack promo is another added extra promoted via ads above the game listings. For NFL games, the odds boost applies to all of the chosen players to score a touchdown in key games. It’s currently being offered for Thursday, Sunday and Monday primetime games. Other odds boost options are available, too.

Using the FOX Bet NJ app

FOX Bet in New Jersey is about as user-friendly and comprehensive as it gets. It’s sharp-looking blue, white and gray color scheme and the easy-to-read font makes the app easy on the eyes.

Also, each sports team is posted on the board with their colors displayed in an icon such as a helmet or cap.

The main lobby features a full rundown of the upcoming card, and each game displays the straight bet options of moneyline, point spread, and total points.

Additional betting options can be gained by clicking on individual games or the “in-game” tab. If the game you are looking for isn’t displayed, all the sports — darts and rugby included — can be found at the top of the page.

Fox Bet mobile

You can track wagers by clicking on “Open Bets” or the blue bet slip located toward the top right of the page.

NJ sports betting rules

Location: New Jersey is the only state where you can make a bet using the FOX Bet NJ app. Geolocation technology is used to verify your location. If you live in New Jersey but are physically outside of the state at the time of making a wager, your bet will not be accepted.

Age: Just like the casino floor, you must be 21 years and older to gamble online.

Prohibited wagering: Betting on high school sporting events is not permitted. No wagers are accepted on collegiate athletic events taking place in New Jersey. Betting on any New Jersey-based college/university, including Rutgers, Seton Hall and Princeton, is not allowed. It doesn’t matter if the game is being played in the Garden State or New York City.

Stars Group has a strong track record

The Stars Group is recognized as one of the largest online gaming companies in the world, so adding a New Jersey sportsbook to its previously existing product line makes perfect sense.

The BetStars platform is established overseas means New Jersey users are getting a sharp-looking product with easy-to-navigate menus. The unique betting options and new player promo deals help make this app stand out.

The one negative, for now, is the lack of web browser product.

When the Division of Gaming Enforcement releases its September figures, the numbers will only paint a partial picture of how it stacks up against the seven other competitors. The field of online/mobile sports betting options in New Jersey will likely soon outnumber the nine land-based casinos in Atlantic City as European-based online gaming companies Unibet from the Kindred Group and bet365 also have mobile/online sports betting products in the works.

The Stars Group has millions of registered users around the world, including New Jersey. Matt Primeaux, senior vice president of strategy and operations, USA at the Stars Group, recently expressed the company’s excitement about rolling out the BetStars product to New Jersey sports fans.

“As one of the largest online gaming companies in the world with millions of customers worldwide, we have successfully launched BetStars in regulated markets across Europe and look forward to expanding and enhancing our New Jersey BetStars offering, including through leveraging the Sky Betting & Gaming acquisition following approval from the UK Competition and Markets Authority, to provide a premier product and experience to our customers in this new and developing market.”
