SugarHouse Sportsbook overview

New Jersey is a rapidly expanding market with nine retail sportsbooks along with nine mobile/online platforms, with more to come.

SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia, via its licensing partnership with Golden Nugget AC, had a direct route into the Garden State sports betting marketplace and wasted very little time getting its mobile/online sport betting products up and running on Aug. 23. DraftKings (Aug. 6) and betMGM (Aug. 22) were the only two to go live sooner.

Rush Street Gaming, owner of SugarHouse Casino and Rivers Casino, was already familiar with NJ gambling websites via its successful SugarHouse Online Casino (also part of the Golden Nugget partnership) product that features more than 450 table games, including live dealers, and slots. SugarHouse Sportsbook and Casino offers users the full casino experience in one app/platform.

In October 2018, however, SugarHouse Sportsbook moved its online sports betting to Monmouth Park’s gambling license in order to offer NBA bets. The online casino remains under the Golden Nugget license.

Types of sports betting wagers

Here is a look at how you can bet at SugarHouse Sportsbook:

Moneyline

Who will win the game straight up? Once you answer that question the rest is easy. On the board, no matter what the sport is, each team has a three-digit number with a plus (underdog) or minus (favorite) sign listed under Money Line. For example, if the Chicago Bears are listed at -182, you would need to bet $182 to win $100. In the same game, the Seattle Seahawks are +150, so the bettor would earn $150 on a $100 wager.

Point spreads

The Point Spread is a figure that provides an advantage or disadvantage based on the margin of victory or defeat for a given team. The “favorite” team (labeled with a “-” sign) would be at the disadvantage as they would need to win the game by a set number of points, while the “underdog” team (labeled with a “+” sign) would be given an advantage to not lose the game by a set number of points. The point spread creates even-level bets that generate interest for both teams in a contest.

Parlays

A parlay is a single bet in which two or more individual wagers are linked together and dependent on the others to produce a winning ticket. Parlay bets have higher payout amounts than if the bets are made separately. All teams must win or cover the point-spread in order to win your parlay, and payouts depend on the number of teams in each wager. Parlay bets may include different sports, point-spreads, money lines and totals.

The Jackpot Parlay is being heavily promoted on the app and website. This multi-tiered parlay bet includes a feature in which the system randomly picks a combination of eight bets in all sports (there is a re-pick option). Once satisfied, place the bet and the potential payout will appear on the betting slip. The current example displays a potential payout of $102,319.65 on a $1 wager.

Teasers

This is considered a single bet in which at least three point-spread wagers are in play. The upside is bettors can adjust the lines favorably (they would be the same with each game), but the payout is lower versus placing individual game bets.

Total score

A total or over/under bet is a single wager on whether or not the combined score of two teams will be over or under the amount set by the oddsmakers. As a bettor, you need to select if the final score will be OVER or UNDER the set total.

Prop bets

Prop bets are arguably the most exciting and entertaining form of sports betting available, especially for casual sports fans during the biggest and best sporting events. While they’re a lot of fun, they can also be extremely profitable.  Prop bets can be placed on anything from how many goals, runs or touchdowns certain players will score to which team will win the coin flip during the Super Bowl.

Futures

Futures are wagers on total season outcomes that can be made months before the season even takes place. You can make futures bets on any of the major sports championships such as the Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, March Madness, College Football Playoff, and the NBA Finals.

In-game betting

Also known as Live Betting, this is the opportunity to bet in real time while the action is unfolding during the live event. The odds change with this type of wager, and could result in a slight processing delay.

New Jersey sports betting rulebook
