The Reasons for Opting Out
Despite the fact that Caesars Entertainment holds a valid New Jersey-issued online gambling license, it remains uncertain whether it will ever receive a Showboat-branded online casino. The revenue generated by those sites totaled $3,335,470 in February 2014, which was a 9% increase over January. With a 30% market share, the company is under no pressure to focus on launching additional sites, especially when dealing with what is essentially a land-based casino brand that has never been associated with online gaming. As is often the case in uncertain situations, the rumors of Caesars Entertainment putting a Showboat Casino on the market have been surfacing from time to time. Showboat History
Showboat Atlantic City was opened in 1987. This Mardi Gras themed resort was purchased by Harrah’s Entertainment in 1998 and as such became a part of Caesars Entertainment’s New Jersey casino empire along with all the other Showboat properties located in other cities. The hotel is located to the north of Trump Taj Mahal and opened with only 516 rooms and a 60,000 square feet casino floor. In 2003, Showboat Atlantic City was expanded with a new 544 room tower, which was called the Orleans tower. The renovation cost $90 million, but that didn’t stop the owners from remodeling the original Bourbon Tower four years later.
As a result, Showboat Atlantic City boasts an impressive 127,978 square feet casino floor, as well as a House of Blues restaurant and several House of Blues suites. The additional amenities include a 3,500 square feet spa, a large fitness center, a pool and two gift shops. All in all, the Showboat may not be the most impressive resort of this kind in the entire Atlantic City, but the massive gaming space and the broad selection of casino games make it fairly popular among the local gambling enthusiasts.
