Nevada leading US sports betting — no more!

The year 2018 brought with it a major victory for sports fans nationwide, less so for the Nevada sports betting industry.

As a result of the May 14, 2018, repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Betting Act (PASPA), the virtual monopoly on legal sports betting in the United States that Nevada had enjoyed for many years wasn’t just threatened.

It came to a crashing end.

In fact, as of this writing, with PASPA no longer an obstacle, seven other states, in the following order, quickly passed the necessary legislation so that they, too, could offer legal sports betting on single games:

  • Delaware
  • New Jersey
  • Mississippi
  • West Virginia
  • New Mexico
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island

Over the course of the next few years, or maybe even sooner, the number of states where sports betting will be legal should increase substantially. Many other states either already have legislation in the works or are seriously considering it.

But none of these developments would have been possible without the leadership and persistence of New Jersey in paving the way for the Supreme Court to finally make its landmark decision.

NJ may pass Nevada as sports betting leader

During the less than a year that sports betting has been legal in New Jersey, gamblers in that state have wagered more than $2.3 billion. That places New Jersey second in legal sports betting revenue only to Nevada, whose intake for 2018 exceeded 5 billion.

However, a huge segment of the potential NJ gambling websites and sports betting market is still untapped. That is what led NJ Gov. Phil Murphy to be extremely optimistic about the future of sports betting in this state.

Murphy anticipates that by as soon as 2020, NJ could actually surpass Nevada as the top US sports betting market.

Speaking at the Betting on Sports America conference that took place at the Meadowlands in April, Gov. Murphy had this to say:

Nevada is clearly in our sights. We can overtake it as early as next year.”

Murphy is not the only one making this projection

Some people might think that Murphy’s brazen statement is no more than wishful thinking. After all, Las Vegas has been virtually synonymous with casino-based sportsbooks since the 1970s. By contrast, NJ online sports betting didn’t even become an option until 2018.

However, several prominent sports betting analysts agree with Murphy and have echoed the same sentiments.

Gambling analyst Chris Grove of Eilers & Krejcik Gaming, another Betting on Sports America conference speaker, acknowledged that “it’s possible that New Jersey could become the top market next year.”

Jim Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, who spoke at the April conference as well, said that “the current trends put New Jersey in a good place.”

NJ to dethrone Nevada as US sports betting king

The aforementioned speakers also offered some compelling arguments to back up their predictions.

Population advantage

New Jersey has almost 9 million residents. That’s about three times the population of Nevada. Gambling in Nevada is primarily tourist-driven.

Out-of-state traffic

More specifically, drive-in traffic from New York and other nearby states where sports betting is either not yet legal or still in its infancy. Any would be sports bettor in NYC who so desires can simply drive through the Lincoln Tunnel and minutes later bet on sports legally.

One option is the sportsbook at the Meadowlands Racetrack. However, many drivers don’t even leave their car because they can make the same sports bets on their smartphone.

In addition, many sports bettors drive to New Jersey from Pennsylvania.  While sports betting has been legalized in Pennsylvania, the options there are much more limited.  A short drive to New Jersey solves the problem.

Of course, after Pennsylvania expands its sports betting options and sports betting becomes legal in New York as well, this big advantage that New Jersey offers will diminish.

Wide choice of sportsbooks, including superior mobile sports betting products

NJ sports bettors don’t need to limit themselves to just a handful of places. Eight of the nine existing Atlantic City casinos and two NJ racetracks — Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands — provide full-service sportsbooks on the premises.

In addition, 24/7 online or mobile sports betting is currently an option at 13 other NJ-based sportsbooks.

You can check NJ Gambling Websites for the complete list.

Additional advantages to betting on sports in New Jersey

As someone who has been taking advantage of what New Jersey sportsbooks have to offer, I would like to add other big pluses that the Sports Betting America conference speakers didn’t mention.

Extra perks for betting at Atlantic City casino sportsbooks

Most of the Atlantic City-based sportsbooks, and I would think the racetrack sportsbooks, too, are not just holes in the wall where you place and cash bets.

You can sit down on a comfortable chair or sofa, or at the bar, if you prefer, and mingle and socialize with other sports bettors while simultaneously watching all of the games you have bet on large screen HD TVs.

At some sportsbooks, you can also order food and drinks and have them brought to you tableside.

A few of these sportsbooks also have a decent comp program for sports bettors. I particularly like the Caesars-owned sportsbooks (Harrah’s and Bally’s) where drinks are free to anyone betting $50 or more.

In addition, all reward and tier credits that a player earns from any participating casino or sportsbook are linked. So I can draw upon my saved comps and order free food while I’m watching the games as well.

Extra perks for betting at NJ online or mobile sportsbooks

In addition, bettors who prefer the convenience of online or mobile betting can take advantage of some great special promotions exclusively for them.

For example, in my April 30 post, I describe an ongoing promotion that Golden Nugget Sports and Casino offers to first-time sports bettors. It entails making an initial wager in the total amount of $50.

The bet can be either a regular straight bet or in-play bet on any single game for which a betting line is posted (but not the NBA). If the bet wins, of course, the player is paid accordingly. But if the bet loses, Golden Nugget will issue a full $50 credit to bet on another game!

First-time bettors using the Tropicana sportsbook mobile app also get a free $50 bet to match their own. And they get the free bet even if their initial cash bet wins!

Caesars Casino & Sports offers an even better deal. Players signing up with the site for the first time can select the welcome bonus for sports in lieu of the casino welcome bonus. Make an initial deposit and single wager of up to $300. Caesars will match it dollar for dollar to use on another sports bet of your choice.

In addition to these ongoing promotions, which new players can access any time, individual online sportsbooks may offer limited time only special promotions for existing players.

Summary and conclusion

Having to face one obstacle after another in its long battle to get PASPA overturned could have caused New Jersey to give up prematurely. But that didn’t happen. Similarly, if the state now wants to set its sights on becoming the No. 1 place to bet sports in America, I can’t imagine competition from other states getting in the way.

No other state that’s a newcomer to legal sports betting comes close to New Jersey in sports betting revenue, and I don’t envision that changing. So that leaves Nevada as the only real roadblock. But I share Gov. Murphy’s belief that New Jersey is more than up for the challenge.

The response of NJ players to the availability of sports betting both onsite and online has been phenomenal, and I see no reason why it wouldn’t continue to surpass expectations the rest of this year.

Assuming that happens, and New Jersey does indeed become the top US sports betting market, the extra revenue pouring into the state wouldn’t be the only benefit. In the words of Jim Plousis:

It would mean bragging rights, not just for the country, but for the whole world in terms of making this the place people in this industry want to be.”

Major League Baseball Sports Betting Basics & Beyond

April 23, 2019

The first pitch in the 2019 Major League Baseball season was thrown out March 20. With that, the first full baseball season where anyone inside New Jersey can legally bet on Major League Baseball began.

Each of league’s 30 teams will play 162 games giving you literally thousands of opportunities to bet on baseball this year.

There are three basic baseball bet types available for each game:

  • Moneyline
  • Run line
  • Total

MLB moneylines

Moneyline betting on baseball is quite similar to other sports. NJ sports betting operators will post odds on each team in every game based on the teams’ chances of winning.

You simply pick the team you think will win and lay down a wager. If they manage to get the job done in that game you’ll get paid according to the odds set by the sportsbook where you placed the bet.

For example, on April 15 the New York Mets were at +100 visiting the Philadelphia Phillies at -114 on FanDuel Sportsbook. That means a $100 bet on the Mets would pay $100, plus your bet back if they win. In the meantime, you’d have to bet $114 on the Phillies to win $100 plus your bet back if they win.

MLB run lines

Baseball run lines are much like point spreads in other sports like football. The run line must be factored into a game’s final score when determining a betting winner.

Since the average MLB game is a pretty low scoring affair, run lines are almost always 1.5. Although, as the season rolls on you might find the odd 2.5 run line on games with a heavy favorite.

With a 1.5 run line you either bet that the favorite will win by 2 runs or more, or that the underdog will win outright or lose by only one run.

Betting on run lines effectively alter a game’s moneyline odds.

For example, on that April 15 Mets at Phillies game, PointsBet has the run line set at 1.5. The Phillies -1.5 is at +185 and the Mets +1.5 is at -210. The Phillies are a slight moneyline favorite, but when the run line is factored in the odds on the Mets are set as if they are the favorite.

As you can see, run line betting can be a way for you to get a better price on a moneyline favorite. But remember, the run line must be factored into the final score when determining the betting winner.

In other words, you’ll get a better price on the Phillies to win betting the run line, but they must win the game by two runs or more for your bet to pay off.

MLB totals

Totals bets on baseball games are just like totals in any other sport. You simply bet on whether the final run tally in a game will be over or under a total set by oddsmakers.

The odds on totals vary by game and operator, but you can expect to find anywhere from -105 to -120 on either side at most NJ sportsbooks.

MLB parlays

An MLB parlay is a single bet combining two or more basic MLB bets. Parlays pay better than individual bets, but you need to win every leg of the parlay to get paid anything at all.

Advanced MLB betting options

Most NJ sportsbooks also offer live in-play betting on MLB games. That means basic betting on lines that are adjusted as the action continues.

Most NJ sportsbooks will also offer more advanced betting options on MLB games including:

  • Doubles that combine two basic bets
  • Player props including things like which player will hit a home run or how many strikeouts each starter will throw
  • Inning by inning props and basic lines on the first five innings
  • Game props featuring alternatives to the basic lines and lines including things like which team will have the most hits

MLB futures

NJ sportsbooks also offer moneyline odds on who will win each MLB division, league, and ultimately the World Series.

These odds are adjusted for each team as the season continues. That means that as the season moves forward strong favorites are often established. For the most part, that also means that the price on these favorites is better the earlier in the season it is.

Basic MLB betting tips

The MLB season is a long one. That means anything can and will happen in individual games. However, trends often emerge. Hitters go on hot streaks and pitchers can dominate for long stretches throughout the year.

If you’re going to bet on baseball and want to do more than just throw darts at a board to make picks, it’s your job to identify these trends and take advantage of them.

Here are four basic baseball betting tips that might make that job a little easier:

Starting pitchers impact games

It’s important to be aware of a team’s rotation and who will be the next game’s starter because no one player impacts the game more. It’s so important most NJ sportsbooks will list the starter under the name of each team on the odds board. That’s tantamount to saying you’re betting on the starter as much as you are the team in any given game.

Hitters are streaky and it’s contagious

Look for teams that are on the verge of an offensive explosion. Pay attention to hitting statistics and identify the teams that are almost unstoppable at certain points in the season. Find two facing off against each other in games where they’re deep into the pitching rotation and hammer the over.

Watch the weather

You’re going to want to know when there’s a rain delay, but watching the weather can offer more than that. Balls fly out of the park on hot days but too much humidity can also make the difference between a fly ball out and a home run. A strong wind can have a major impact on home run totals as well. Look for ball parks that have a reputation for hosting high scoring games and bet on big run totals when the weather cooperates and low run totals when it does not.

Properly manage your baseball betting bankroll

The MLB regular season will run all the way to Sept. 29, so there’ no sense in blowing your entire bankroll on an early season sure thing. Especially since there’s really no such thing. Take your time and properly manage your betting bankroll throughout the season. That way you’ll still have something to bet when postseason baseball begins Oct. 1. Game 1 of the 2019 World Series is set for Oct. 22 and if the series goes seven games, Game 7 will be played on Oct. 30. It would be sure a shame to run out of cash before you get the chance to bet on that.

How And Where To Bet On The 2019 Masters At NJ Online Sportsbooks

April 10, 2019
2019 Masters

The 2019 Masters tees off Thursday and, for the first time, anyone in New Jersey can now bet on golf’s biggest event.

Betting on the Masters can be as simple as picking the golfer you think will be putting on the green jacket inside Butler Cabin on Sunday evening and laying a few bucks down on it.

However, most NJ online and mobile sportsbooks are also offering several tournament- and player-specific lines for those who want to dive a little deeper.

Picking the outright 2019 Masters winner

Picking the outright winner of any PGA event before it starts can be downright tough, never mind who will win at Augusta National. That’s why you’ll see a positive (+) moneyline number beside every golfer on the board at all NJ sportsbooks heading into Thursday’s tee off.

Positive numbers mean big odds. The bigger the number, the more you stand to win if that golfer can become a 2019 Masters’ champion.

Of course, NJ sportsbooks will adjust these odds as the tournament progresses. That means the odds on the tournament leaders after the first two rounds are sure to go down. Plus, you may even find some negative (-) moneyline numbers heading into Sunday’s final round.

Negative moneyline numbers mean you’ll have to lay that number just to win $100 plus your bet back.

Add it up, and for the most part, the sooner you get a bet down on who you think will win the 2019 Masters, the better odds you’re going to get.

More 2019 Masters lines

As mentioned above, the betting lines on the 2019 Masters available at NJ sportsbooks extend well beyond just who will win it all.

You can bet on things including:

  • Who will lead after the first, second and third rounds.
  • A particular golfer’s final finishing position.
  • The top finisher from a specific part of the world.
  • Group and head-to-head scoring matchups.

There are even various props available.

Tiger Woods Masters props

Since four-time Masters’ champion Tiger Woods is the most popular athlete in the game, several NJ sportsbooks have put together a series of props surrounding Woods’ Masters performance this year.

For example, as of April 9, DraftKings Sportsbook is offering:

  • +800 on Woods playing in Sunday’s final grouping.
  • An odds boost on Woods winning it all, moving the line from +1400 to +2000.
  • +500 on Woods making a triple bogey or worse in any round.
  • +500 on Woods shooting -10 or better.
  • +6600 on Woods making a hole in one.
  • A 15.5 over/under on Woods’ birdies.
  • A 12.5 over/under on Woods’ bogeys.

Plus, over on FanDuel Sportsbook, you’ll find Woods’ lines including:

  • +2000 on Woods going bogey-free in the first round.
  • +1200 on Woods to birdie the second hole in all four rounds.
  • -120 on Woods to make an eagle on any hole.
  • -200 on Woods’ first shot from the first tee to land in the fairway.
  • +5000 on Woods making a hole in one.
  • +100 on Woods’ lowest scoring round being over 68.5.
  • +30000 on Woods winning both Wednesday’s Par 3 tournament at Augusta National and the 2019 Masters.

Look around at the various NJ sportsbooks to see exactly which bets each is offering on the 2019 Masters.

Watch the Masters, beat the sportsbooks

Of course, the best way to beat the sportsbooks is to pick a side you like and shop around for the best available price on the bet.

Other than that, golf is like any other sport in that actually watching the game will give you the best betting insights.

The 2019 Masters will be from April 11 through April 14, and the action will be broadcast live on ESPN on Thursday and Friday, and CBS on Saturday and Sunday.

You’ll also be able to find video highlights through the Masters’ Twitter accounts @MastersMoments and @TheMasters.

Plus, there’s a live stream at Masters.com and the Masters’ mobile app for iPhone and Android devices.

Additionally, there will be live coverage of featured groups, Masters on the Range, Amen Corner, and Holes 15 and 16 available on Masters.com and the Masters’ app.

Masters betting tips

Finally, if you’re looking for info on the 2019 Masters, and a little insight into who will win the 2019 Masters before tee off on Thursday, remember that:

  • All of the past five Masters’ champions were coming off a win or runner-up finish in their last eight events.
  • Ten of the past 11 winners made the cut the previous year.
  • Ten of the last 12 Masters’ champions came in ranked inside the Top 30 golfers in the world.
  • Neither the defending champion nor the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world has won in more than a decade.

Final Four Announced: 2019 NJ Online Sportsbook Tournament Bracket

April 2, 2019

Recently, our team here at NJ Gambling Websites put together a 2019 NJ Online Sportsbook Tournament Bracket Championship in honor of this year’s March Madness tournament.

We ranked the top eight NJ online sportsbooks & sports betting apps and placed them in a March Madness-style bracket.

After announcing our little tournament to the masses, we took to Twitter to let the people (aka YOU) decide.

For each matchup, we created a poll, and let the people of Twitter decide the fate of each NJ online sportsbook.

After all the votes were tallied, here’s how the first round played out:

No. 1 seed DraftKings defeats No. 8 seed William Hill

Yes, DraftKings is currently the leading daily fantasty sports (DFS) operator, but how did they take down a legit sports-betting giant like William Hill so easily?

DraftKings’ three keys to victory

  1. Preparation: DraftKings had been eyeing up the competition long before sports betting was legalized in NJ, and it became the first fully legal NJ online/mobile sports betting platform.
  2. Integration: The DraftKings’ DFS platform and its online sportsbook share the same interface and online wallet, making it convenient for customers in more ways than one.
  3. Easy, fast and fun: DraftKings break down any complicated subject matter into simple terms, and it offers a ton of betting options, including both traditional and modern bets to keep everyone happy.

No. 2 seed BetStars defeats No. 7 seed 888sport

The company known for its PokerStars platform becomes a No. 2 seed and dominates 888sport.

BetStars’ three keys to victory

  1. Mobile app: Downloading the BetStars app is significantly quicker than most NJ sports betting apps, which inspires confidence in the security of the platform.
  2. Promos and bonuses: When it comes to player promotions, BetStars is at the top of its game. From huge new player sign-up bonuses to simplified matched bets, it does it all.
  3. Customer service: The parent company for BetStars, the Stars Group, strives to provide quality service to its players, across all the platforms. This type of customer support goes a long way, obviously.

No. 6 seed SugarHouse upsets No. 3 seed FanDuel

SugarHouse looks to be the next Cinderella story as it stuns FanDuel in a photo-finish upset.

SugarHouse’s three keys to victory

  1. OG of Integration: SugarHouse was the first of its kind to merge its NJ online casino and sports betting app on creating the shared wallet.
  2. Betting innovators: SugarHouse Sportsbook is well-known for its in-game betting, bet variety and innovative options, like the ever-popular jackpot parlay.
  3. New player bonuses: SugarHouse treats its new players quite well with a generous first-deposit bonus of up to $250. Use promo code PLAY250 to claim yours. However, FanDuel does have a $500 risk-free bet offer, but sometimes less is more.

No. 5 seed PointsBet defeats No. 4 seed Caesars

Even though they came in as a small underdog, PointsBet embarrassed Caesars without even breaking a sweat.

PointsBet’s three keys to victory

  1. Spread betting specialist: PointsBet is well-known for its unique wagering option to betting the spread, in which it provides added benefits. For example, bettors have the opportunity to increase its winnings based on the size of the team’s lead.
  2. Attractive welcome bonus: PointsBet offers a huge welcome bonus worth up to $1,050 in free bets. Use promo code PLAY50.
  3. Winning opportunities: PointsBet offers high-risk, high-reward wagering, and NJ bettors can’t get enough.

The 2019 NJ Online Sportsbook Tournament Bracket Championship

March 11, 2019

The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament will be as exciting as it ever in New Jersey this year.

That’s because of the plethora of NJ online and mobile sportsbooks now available to anyone with an internet connection.

The list of operational NJ mobile sportsbook market is now up to 13. Plus, there are more on the way.

Therefore, in the spirit of March Madness, NJ Gambling Websites has decided to rank NJ mobile sportsbooks from No. 1 to No. 8 and place them in a March Madness-style bracket.

However, ALL OF YOU will decide the tournament fate of each NJ online sports app.

Throughout the next few weeks, we’re going to create polls on our PlayNJ Twitter Page to determine the winners of each match-up… and ultimately the overall champion.

But first, let’s take a closer look at our top four seeds.

Check below for detailed descriptions of all the new player bonuses and March Madness promos the top-ranked mobile sportsbooks in the state have to offer.

Plus, discover why these particular  NJ mobile sportsbooks rose to prominence and how they’re planning to stay there.

No. 1: DraftKings Sportsbook

DraftKings Sportsbook gave itself a head start on the rest of the NJ mobile sportsbook market by launching first. It quickly became the top-grossing sportsbook in the state and still holds that position now.

However, the reason it’s the No. 1 seed is clearly the user-friendly nature of its software. DraftKings Sportsbook employs software with its own sports betting language that is far easier to follow than most typical sports betting jargon. The app asks questions of its users and turns the answers into bets. Users have what seems like a simple two-way conversation about a wager and the traditionally complicated process of placing a bet is transformed.

It’s an innovative approach to sports betting that goes beyond just posting the odds and the numbers prove its working.

DraftKings Sportsbook has all kinds of sports and bet types available and the lines are competitive enough that the app appeals to hardcore sports bettors. However, its unique approach to betting is clearly drawing in novices as well.

The app is also as quick and responsive as any on the market.

Signing up is a simple process, and if you do it through this exclusive DraftKings Sportsbook link, and you’ll get $25 in free bets. Plus, DraftKings Sportsbook will match your first bet up to $500 when you make a deposit.

Additionally, partner Resorts Casino Hotel is running a free-to-enter bracket challenge out of TDraftKings Sportsbook at Resorts retail sports betting operation. There’s $1 million up for grabs if you can pick all 63 March Madness games correctly and various other prizes available for advancing to the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, and Final Four with a perfect bracket.

DraftKings Sportsbook is currently dominating the mobile sportsbook market and would have to be considered the No. 1 seed in any legitimate ranking.

No. 2: BetStars

BetStars is the No. 2 seed on the NJ mobile sportsbook market side of the bracket primarily because it leads the league in promotions.

Sign up for an account through this exclusive BetStars NJ link, and you’ll be entitled to up to $500 in free bets.

BetStars will match your first bet up to $50. Then, they’ll give you another $50 in free bets every time you bet an additional $150 until you’ve reached $500 in free bets.

But there’s more. In March, BetStars is offering the following promotions:

  • Tuesday Sports Free Bet: Place a bet between 6 and 7 pm on Tuesdays and get a free bet up to $100.
  • Bet of the Day Challenge: Complete a daily challenge and win up to $1,000 in free bets.
  • Bet $25, Get a $5 Free Bet: Bet $25 throughout the week and get a $5 free bet.
  • Protect Your Bet from Late Goals: Get a refund of up to $20 if a late goal turns your bet into a loser.
  • Up to 100 Percent Added to Winnings: A parlay bonus adding a free bets bonus to all winning parlays with three or more legs.
  • NBA Free-Bet Refund Up to $20: Get a refund of up to $20 if the NBA team you bet on loses in overtime.
  • LeBron Lifeline: Bet on the Lakers’ moneyline and get a free bet up to $20 if they lose and if LeBron James scores 35 points or more.
  • Bet $50, Get $50: Bet $50 on an NBA game on Friday and get a $50 In-Game free bet.
  • Lock in your Profits: A cash-out option to ensure you get paid before a comeback turns a winning bet into a loser.

A solid No. 2 seed

Don’t be surprised if BetStars eventually runs one, but so far there’s no word on a March Madness promotion.

Other than that, the app features easy-to-use software and a massive menu of sports and betting options.

Add it up, and BetStars is a solid No. 2 seed in the NJ mobile sports betting market.

No. 3: FanDuel Sportsbook

FanDuel Sportsbook is the online and mobile arm of NJ’s top-grossing retail sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook at the Meadowlands.

It’s no surprise to see FanDuel as the No. 3 seed, considering how easy the app is to navigate and how welcoming it is to both novice and expert bettors.

There have been a few hiccups with the lines, but FanDuel Sportsbook is now settling into a spot among the top NJ mobile sportsbooks.

FanDuel’s daily fantasy sports site ran a massive free-to-enter NCAA brackets contest in 2018, so don’t be surprised to see FanDuel Sportsbook take up that mantle this year.

The site already runs a plethora of promotions, including one for college basketball regular season games. FanDuel Sportsbook’s College Basketball Halftime Insurance gives players up to $25 in site credit back if any moneyline bet lost when the team held a halftime lead.

Additionally, FanDuel Sportsbook offers new players signing up for an account through our FanDuel Sportsbook link a $500 risk-free bet. It comes in the form of a refund of up to $500 if you lose your first real-money bet.

The app is user-friendly, and the betting process is simple and well laid out. All factors that help make FanDuel Sportsbook the No.3 seed in the NJ mobile sports betting market.

No. 4: Caesars Sportsbook

The No. 4 seed in any March Madness bracket may not wow anybody, but it should be a solid performer that is grounded and consistent. Caesars Sportsbook fits in well in this spot.

Its promotions include only the standard stuff.  New players who sign up using the promo code BETFREE10 will get $10 in free bets with no deposit required. Plus, a 100 percent, first-deposit bonus of up to $300.

Caesars Sportsbook and online casino are completely integrated. Players share a wallet, making the transition between sports betting and casino games completely seamless.

Caesars has all the college basketball standards covered as well. That means Caesars will post competitive lines on all March Madness games. Plus, in-game betting will be available as well as NCAA basketball futures.

All in all, Caesars Sportsbook isn’t a No. 1 seed quite yet. However, it is a solid performer that displays the kind of consistency you should expect from a No. 4 seed in the NJ mobile sports betting market.

February 19, 2019

The New Jersey Devils may be the state’s only NHL team, but the Philadelphia Flyers, New York Rangers and even the New York Islanders are close enough to have a ton of fans in the Garden State.

Put simply, NHL hockey is a big deal in New Jersey, especially since the launch of NJ online sports betting now allows fans to bet on games.

In fact, all licensed NJ sportsbooks and sports-focussed NJ gambling websites, offer a variety of simple and easy ways even casual fans of the NHL can bet on hockey games.

How to bet on the NHL in NJ

NHL moneylines in NJ

Moneyline bets pay according to the team’s probability of winning.  You just pick a winner and book the bet at odds that are posted as either a negative (-) or positive (+) number.

A negative number indicates that the team is the favorite and represents how much you have to bet to win $100 plus your bet back. A positive number indicates that the team is the underdog and represents how much a $100 bet will pay.

NHL puck lines in NJ

Puck line bets in the NHL are moneylines bets with a point spread factored in. Because the average NHL game is decided by two goals or less, the puck line for just about every game is set at -1.5 for the favorite and +1.5 for the underdog.

All you need to do is make the correct prediction with that puck line factored in to win. Puck line bets are booked at odds that are posted on each team just like the moneyline.

NHL futures in NJ

NHL futures are bets on NHL teams involving something where the outcome will not be determined until a future date.

These are often bets on who will win the Division, Conference, or Stanley Cup Finals before the start of the season.

However, NJ sportsbooks will take futures bets on all 31 NHL teams throughout the regular season and into the playoffs. Just as long as the team you want to bet on is still in contention.

For the most part, the earlier it is in the season, the better the odds available. However, the odds on teams at the bottom of the standings will increase the season progresses.

NHL totals in NJ

NJ sportsbooks set a line on the total number of goals both teams will score on a game. You decide if the actual total will be over or under that line and bet on it.

NJ sportsbooks typically make the odds on totals -110. That means you have to bet $110 to win $100 plus your bet back, whether you like the over or the under.

NHL parlays in NJ

NHL parlays involve combining two or more bets into one. Parlays pay better than the bets would individually. However, every bet that is a part of it must win for the parlay to pay. An NHL parlay could include different bets on one or more NHL games.

NHL in-play betting

Most NJ sportsbooks also offer live in-play betting on NHL games. This allows you to make bets during a game with odds that will fluctuate as the action does.

Bet on all the NHL action you want with a $500 risk-free bet at FanDuel Sportsbook NJ!

NHL betting tips

Betting on NHL games at NJ sportsbooks is an easy process. Picking winners is a whole lot harder.

Improve your picks by focussing on these three NHL facts:

  • There is a home-ice advantage in hockey. Home teams get the last line change and a whole lot more. They get that boost of confidence only playing in front of a home crowd can give a team. Most teams have a big edge at home, but there are some road warriors that have found a way to reduce it. Pay attention to the home and road records of teams to see who holds the real advantage.
  • Most NHL games are decided by a single goal. Plus, the majority feature five goals or less. There’s a palpable parity in the NHL, meaning there’s very little separating teams at the top of the standings from those at the bottom and underdogs regularly upset favorites. Look for lines that provide serious value while allowing you to take advantage of this.
  • Goalies have a huge impact on NHL games. Think of the starting netminder like a starting pitcher in a baseball game in terms of how much influence they will have on the outcome of a game. Bet on the best goalie and take advantage of the opportunity to bet against his team when he gets the odd night off. Plus, look for goalies on hot and cold streaks and bet accordingly. Momentum is real.

DraftKings Online Casino Ready To Add Live Dealer Games Via Evolution Deal

January 30, 2019

The DraftKings brand has already made its presence felt by New Jersey sports betting fans in a big way.

The recent launch of DraftKings Casino makes the company well positioned to become an even greater force in the NJ online gambling industry.

The NJ online casino game count is tiny when compared to its hefty competition. But now, DraftKings inked a deal with Evolution Gaming for live dealer casino games.

More about DraftKings and Evolution Gaming

On Jan. 24, casino gambling software company, Evolution, signed an agreement to provide DraftKings Casino with live casino games.

Evolution Gaming will use its studio in Atlantic City to live stream the games to the DraftKings Sportsbook app. The casino’s online and mobile players will be able to play baccarat and other games in real time with a real dealer.

However, no timeline was mentioned on when the live dealer games would launch.

James Stern, Evolution Gaming CEO for its US and land-based division, indicated that his company is excited about working with DraftKings.

He described DraftKings as “a young and dynamic company that has blazed a trail in recent years with its best-in-class technology and extensive knowledge of sports.”

Jamie Shea, senior director of the DraftKings Sportsbook NJ, sees the offering of live dealer games as a big step toward making DraftKings Sportsbook and Casino a “true, one-stop destination,” for a diverse group of bettors.

Live dealer games are popular in New Jersey

Golden Nugget Online Casino was the first NJ gambling website to offer live dealer table games, but its partner is Ezugi Gaming. That was back in August 2016.

Since then, NJ live dealer games have become enormously popular. Golden Nugget has added onto its live dealer game count and extended the operating hours. Other NJ online casinos have jumped on the bandwagon, too.

In fact, before DraftKings Casino’s launch, Evolution Gaming has been live streaming blackjack and other table games from the same Atlantic City studio to several other NJ gambling websites.

These include Resorts, 888 Casino, Hard Rock online casino and SugarHouse online casino.

The launch of DraftKings NJ online casino

On Dec. 17, DraftKings introduced its new NJ casino app for iOS and Android.

Initially, the casino didn’t have a web-based platform; it was only accessible on mobile devices and blackjack was the only game. However, the shared wallet with the Daily Fantasy Sports and sports betting platforms made it easy to log in the same way and switch to casino play.

Since the casino is integrated with the DraftKings sports betting app, there is no need to download a separate app.

Online betting capabilities and other casino games have since been added. In fact, since Jan. 1, DraftKings online casino offers a choice of the following five games:

  • Blackjack: Minimum bet $1, maximum bet $100
  • Roulette: Minimum bet $1, maximum bet: $1,000
  • Double Double Bonus Video Poker: Minimum bet: 10 cents, maximum bet $200
  • Wheel of Fortune slot game: Minimum bet 50 cents, maximum bet $500
  • Cleopatra slot game: Minimum bet 1 cent, maximum bet $600

As you can see, the betting ranges are wide enough to accommodate almost any type of player. Demo play is another option.

Granted, compared to other NJ online casinos that offer hundreds of games, this meager offering hardly even qualifies as a casino. But a site has to start somewhere.

Given DraftKing’s track record, its ambitious plans for 2019, and the new agreement with Evolution Gaming to offer live dealer games, DraftKings is certain to get bigger and better.

An international powerhouse

DraftKings, based out of Boston, was founded in 2012 as a daily fantasy sports (DFS) betting operator.

In just six short years, the company has expanded its services. It now offers DFS wagering in 11 professional sports in eight countries, including the US, Canada, UK and Australia.

DraftKings is the world’s largest DFS website, currently servicing 10 million customers worldwide.

But for the Garden State, DFS wagering is just the tip of the iceberg. Through its licensing arrangement with Resorts and a future live dealer casino, DraftKings diversifies its offerings to appeal to a much broader spectrum of bettors.

Score Super Bonuses For Super Bowl 2019 From DraftKings, FanDuel

January 23, 2019

Super Bowl Sunday is inching closer and, as the big day looms, two NJ online sports betting sites are yards ahead of the competition.

That’s right, just like the Patriots and the Rams, DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook have scored proverbial touchdowns with their new customer offers.

For you as a first-time sports bettor, that can only mean one thing: tons of added value.

Before we line up these deals, it’s important to kick off with a caveat. As lucrative as these sports betting bonuses are, they’re not suitable for everyone. Put simply, you can only bag the following offers if you’re a new customer.

Now, the upside here is that online sports betting is still fairly new in New Jersey. Therefore, the chances are that most of you aren’t already members of DraftKings or FanDuel. However, if you are, these betting bonuses aren’t for you:

  • All new customers at DraftKings can receive $35 when they create their first account, plus a matched bet worth up to $500.
  • FanDuel first-timers can receive a risk-free bet worth up to $500 after registering an account and making their first deposit.

Make the right plays to score some extra cash

As you can see, that’s some serious value just in time for the Super Bowl. Naturally, the money isn’t just going to fall into your lap. In fact, you’re going to have to run a few plays if you want to boost your bankroll.

Fortunately, there aren’t many obstacles in your way. As long as you can follow the simple steps below, you’ll be able to scoop up to $1,035 in NJ sports betting value before Feb. 3:

DraftKings Welcome Bonus instructions

  • Follow our secure DraftKings sports betting app sign-up link to create your first account.
  • Input your details and wait for your no deposit bonus to be activated.
  • Once set, you’ll find seven free bets worth $5 each in your account. These bets are valid for 30 days and are non-cashable. Additionally, you won’t receive your stake back if any of these bets are successful.
  • After using your free bets, make a deposit and DraftKings will match your opening wager up to a maximum of $500. Again, this bet is non-cashable and you’ll have 30 days to use it.
  • Finally, only your profit from this bet will be credited to your account.

FanDuel Welcome Bonus instructions

  • Use our FanDuel sports betting app registration link to create your first account.
  • Input your details and make your first deposit.
  • Place an opening bet and FanDuel will activate the risk-free bonus.
  • If your opening bet wins, you’re a winner. If it loses, FanDuel will refund your stake up to $500.
  • All rebates are issued as site credit. Bonus funds are non-cashable but you can use them to make real money wagers. Any subsequent winnings can be withdrawn once you stake your bonus amount using real cash.

Different propositions, same great value

Clearly, there are two different scenarios here. However, each one is potentially lucrative. For example, if you join DraftKings before Super Bowl 2019, you’ll have two options. Either, you can use one or more of your $5 free bets to wager on the big game. Alternatively, you can clear these credits before February 3rd and use your matched bet to stake a larger amount on the action. Either way, you have the opportunity to put down someone else’s money and profit when things go your way.

For those who choose to ante-up at FanDuel, the strategy is simple: bet big on the 2019 Super Bowl without any worries. As long as it’s your opening bet, you’ll receive your full stake back (up to $500) if you make a bum pick. Of course, if you win, it’s happy days. However, the beauty of this bonus is that you can make a prediction and it won’t matter if you’re wrong.

In fact, that’s the beauty of both welcome offers and, in turn, the reason you should use them to make some bold bets. When it’s your own money, the prudent strategy is to do some research, assess the betting lines and go with a conservative pick. For instance, based on recent results, most would agree that the Patriots are favorites heading into the final showdown. At this stage, you can get odds of -139 on a straight win for the Patriots. Based on the evidence, this seems like a solid bet. However, when you’re using bonus money or you know there’s no risk, you can afford to be more outlandish.

Take a shot at glory with these NJ sports betting bonuses

Naturally, the more outlandish you are, the better the odds will be. Indeed, while the Patriots may be favorites, the returns on a straight win bet will be low. In contrast, if you placed money on the Rams at +115, you’d get more bang for your buck. Taking this further, you could make a prop bet on the number of passing yards Rams’ QB Jared Goff will make during the game. With a specific prediction like this, the odds are going to be more attractive which, in turn, provide better returns.

Under normal conditions, we wouldn’t usually advocate this strategy. But, in this situation, it’s perfect. Put simply, if you’re a sports betting newbie and you want to get the most value from the 2019 Super Bowl, our NJ online bonus picks are the way to do it. Regardless of whether you play it safe or go for a Hail Mary, the conditions are in your favor right now.

BetStars Vs. DraftKings Sportsbook: An NJ Mobile Sportsbook Comparison

December 3, 2018

DraftKings Sportsbook and BetStars NJ are two NJ sports betting apps that both operate under the Resorts sports betting license.

In fact, the two mobile and online sports betting operations have combined to help Resorts Digital become the state’s top-grossing sports betting licensee, with more than $16.5 million in gross NJ sports betting revenue reported up to the end of October 2018.

Of course, to this point, it has been a lot more DraftKings than it has been BetStars. However, it’s still worth comparing two of the top dogs in the burgeoning NJ mobile and online sports betting market.

Here’s a basic rundown of what each is all about:

DraftKings Sportsbook app

DraftKings Sportsbook launched in August 2018. It was the first online sports betting app in the US to launch outside of Nevada. DraftKings Sportsbook has emerged as the NJ online market leader, and it really is the standard by which all other NJ mobile sports betting apps are compared.

The app features impressive functionality and a huge variety of betting options.

There’s a great bonus offer for new players and different promotions running all the time.

Things like in-play betting, betting carousels, and new office-style Sportsbook Pools have helped DraftKings Sportsbook become the NJ mobile sports betting app market leader and the innovations keep on coming.

BetStars NJ

BetStars NJ is essentially the PokerStars NJ entry into the NJ mobile sports betting market.

However, it stands on its own as a mobile sports betting app designed for more than just online poker players who are looking to bet on sports between hands.

The app launched in September 2018, and its gaining in popularity because of intuitive and easy-to-use software and competitive betting lines.

The Stars Group behind it might be better known for its PokerStars NJ online poker product, but those poker and online casino platforms are integrated with BetStars, allowing it to take advantage of some synergies.

Either way, BetStars NJ is a rock solid entry in the NJ mobile sports betting market that’s great for more than just players on PokerStars’ NJ gambling website who like to bet on sports.

DraftKings vs. BetStars

Now, let’s take a look at a site-by-site comparison of key app features:

Welcome bonus

New players get $25 free just for signing up at DraftKings Sportsbook. There’s also no bonus code required. Just sign up for a new account using our exclusive link and get $25 free. Easy.

The offer also includes a free bet of up to $200 matching your first deposit.

BetStars, on the other hand, offers a welcome bonus that includes up to $500 in free bets.

Using this exclusive link to sign up, players will get a first bet up of to $50 matched with a free bet. They’ll get another $50 free bet when they bet another $150 and they can do this nine times for a total of up to $500 in free bets.

The Bottom Line: Money talks and the last time we checked $500 says more than $225. Therefore, BetStars has the   Welcome Bonus.

Competitive Lines

Sharp sports gamblers go where the lines are.

DraftKings has been the top dog in US daily fantasy sports since it launched in 2012 and seems to understand this better than most. DraftKings Sportsbook consistently offers the most competitive lines in the NJ market.

However, it pays to shop around, as there are sportsbooks apps that beat DraftKings on specific lines all the time, BetStars included.

The Bottom Line: It looks like the NJ market is checking DraftKings first and rarely leaving. It’s got the edge on lines right now, but it’s a competitive market and sharps shop.

Betting variety

Both DraftKings Sportsbook and BetStars offer a wide variety of betting options, including:

  • Moneylines
  • Point Spreads
  • Futures
  • Over-Unders
  • Parlays
  • Cash Out Options
  • Round Robins

BetStars also offers something called Odds Boost that allows players to enhance their original bets. However, DraftKings also has Odds Boosts and counters that with a huge variety of In-Play Betting options and Sportsbook Pools.

The Bottom Line: DraftKings gets the edge again with its increasingly popular In-Play Betting options.

Both BetStars NJ and DraftKings Sportsbook offer a good variety of deposit and withdrawal options and responsive customer service.

However, BetStars parent The Stars Group was built on the back of the best customer service department in online gambling and DraftKings is little more than a startup in this regard.

The Bottom Line: DraftKings is working on it, but BetStars gets the nod since it is firmly entrenched working alongside the best support team in the business.

Both the BetStars and DraftKings Sportsbook apps have been built using high-quality software that is user-friendly and intuitive.

Both make it easy to sign up for an account, get money on and off, and make bets.

The Bottom Line: It’s pretty hard to choose between the two in this category. However, the ever-so-slight edge goes to BetStars because of the seamless transition it offers players between the sportsbook, online poker, and casino games. Really, who doesn’t want that?

Overall comparison of NJ online sports betting apps

BetStars and DraftKings Sportsbook are among the best NJ online sports betting apps available in what is a growing market.

DraftKings Sportsbook gets the overall edge because of the weight that must be given to categories such as Betting Variety and Competitive Lines. After all, these are the things sports gamblers truly prize in a sportsbook app. The rest is just gravy.

BetStars has a lot of gravy, but it also has a lot of ground to cover to catch up with DraftKings Sportsbook as the top NJ sports betting app in the market.

In the end, DraftKings Sportsbook is the top-grossing sportsbook app in NJ and it’s easy to see why. A focus on giving the sports betting community exactly what it wants has given it the edge and it’s an edge it’s likely to keep.

In fact, it’s hard to think of anything that can derail the DraftKings Sportsbook train going forward. Unless sharps are forced to move over because BetStars starts giving away so much on its lines.

DraftKings Sportsbook Pools Splash Into NJ Online Sports Betting

November 11, 2018

DraftKings has added a new way for players in New Jersey to bet on sports. The site added Sportsbook Pools to its mobile sportsbook last week, the latest innovation from arguably the top site in NJ sports betting.

“Millions of Americans have been playing in sports pools for years with their friends and coworkers, and now one of the most popular ways that fans can get ‘skin in the game’ is live on DraftKings Sportsbook,” said Matt Kalish, chief revenue officer and co-founder of DraftKings, in a release.

“DraftKings Sportsbook Pools features simple predictions, such as picking the winner of each NFL game weekly, combined with the potential to win jackpot-style prizes. This product will unquestionably make every game more exciting for DraftKings Sportsbook players of all levels.”

The basics of DraftKings Sportsbook Pools

Think of it like an office pool with basic questions, simple answers, but jackpot results.

To play, sports fans are asked a few questions related to outcomes in a specific game or series of games. Any sport can be part of the Sportsbook Pools. Players choose from the provided responses and submit their entry. Winners are based on the number of correct picks as the sports games are played.

This new game offers higher stakes and substantially higher rewards. In Week 10, for example, the inaugural buy-in is $20, with a minimum prize pool of $200,000. Other weeks will vary in cost and prizes.

The pool links to new and existing DK Sportsbook accounts. Players can view the contest from outside New Jersey but can only wager and cash out at a verified location in the Garden State.

DraftKings Sportsbook an NJ sports betting powerhouse

DraftKings has successfully pivoted from daily fantasy sports to single-event betting in New Jersey. The site has managed to connect the two in player profiles and even offers bets on athletes’ fantasy performances for upcoming contests.

But the NJ online sports betting market is young and growing. DraftKings, as of September, is the leader of the pack, posting the lion’s share of NJ online sports betting revenue of all eight mobile sportsbooks.

The Boston-based company has expanded into New Jersey with offices in Hoboken and Jersey City, along with offices in the Big Apple. The company is planning to move into permanent offices in NJ by early next year.

DraftKings already operates a Team Pick’Em to determine the winners of weekly games and distribute prize money based on correct picks. However, this is free to enter and winners earn small payouts.

Sportsbook Pools keeps the innovation coming at DraftKings and in a big way.
