NJ Online Sportsbooks Give ‘Props’ To Bryce Harper

March 6, 2019

Major League Baseball is officially around the corner. Now that Bryce Harper has signed his new, massive 13-year contract, spring training can truly begin.

Harper, who played his first seven years in the big leagues with the Washington Nationals, just signed a highly anticipated deal worth $330 million last week with the Philadelphia Phillies.

This is now the largest contract in North American sports history.

As soon as the signing became official, NJ online sports betting sites, including the FanDuel Sportsbook, saw a lot of action come in on futures betting on the Phils for 2019.

Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook dropped its odds on Philadelphia to win the World Series from +1800 to +1200. These are currently the same odds FanDuel is offering on their NJ gambling websites.

To celebrate the excitement, FanDuel Sportsbook has posted two special Bryce Harper prop bets for fans to wager on.

Bryce Harper prop bets at FanDuel

It’s no surprise that both Harper props on FanDuel are based around the long ball. Today’s baseball is so focused around home runs; bettors might as well get some added joy from them.

The first is Harper’s over/under for the total amount of home runs he’ll hit for the entire season.

  • FanDuel initially set the line at over 32.5 (-130), under 32.5 (+110).

Apparently, the fairly high home-run number didn’t deter the local bettors in NJ.

  • The line is now sitting at over 33.5 (-120), under 33.5 (+100).

Betting on Harper’s home run numbers

Despite Harper being one of the best home-run hitters in MLB, he’s only surpassed 32 homers twice in his career. He did hit 34 last year for the Nationals.

The other prop bet is, “Will Harper hit a dinger on opening day?”

The Phillies play the Atlanta Braves on March 28, and Harper’s line is set at “Yes” (+320). There is not a “No” option to bet.

Now even though +320 might seem like a long shot, Harper actually hits homers on opening day quite often. In fact, he’s MLB’s active leader in home runs on opening day with five.

Harper enjoyed a stretch from 2015 to 2017 where he hit one at each season opener. Even though he didn’t extend his streak last year, he did bat 2 for 3 and got on base a third time.

It’s clear that Harper comes out of spring training with a little more pep in his step than other major league sluggers.

With all eyes on him making his debut with Philadelphia, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him launch another home run this year.

Power Play: Take A Shot At NHL Sports Betting In New Jersey

February 19, 2019

The New Jersey Devils may be the state’s only NHL team, but the Philadelphia Flyers, New York Rangers and even the New York Islanders are close enough to have a ton of fans in the Garden State.

Put simply, NHL hockey is a big deal in New Jersey, especially since the launch of NJ online sports betting now allows fans to bet on games.

In fact, all licensed NJ sportsbooks and sports-focussed NJ gambling websites, offer a variety of simple and easy ways even casual fans of the NHL can bet on hockey games.

Basic NHL bets available include:

  • Puck lines
  • Futures
  • Totals
  • Parlays

How to bet on the NHL in NJ

NHL moneylines in NJ

Moneyline bets pay according to the team’s probability of winning.  You just pick a winner and book the bet at odds that are posted as either a negative (-) or positive (+) number.

A negative number indicates that the team is the favorite and represents how much you have to bet to win $100 plus your bet back. A positive number indicates that the team is the underdog and represents how much a $100 bet will pay.

NHL puck lines in NJ

Puck line bets in the NHL are moneylines bets with a point spread factored in. Because the average NHL game is decided by two goals or less, the puck line for just about every game is set at -1.5 for the favorite and +1.5 for the underdog.

All you need to do is make the correct prediction with that puck line factored in to win. Puck line bets are booked at odds that are posted on each team just like the moneyline.

NHL futures in NJ

NHL futures are bets on NHL teams involving something where the outcome will not be determined until a future date.

These are often bets on who will win the Division, Conference, or Stanley Cup Finals before the start of the season.

However, NJ sportsbooks will take futures bets on all 31 NHL teams throughout the regular season and into the playoffs. Just as long as the team you want to bet on is still in contention.

For the most part, the earlier it is in the season, the better the odds available. However, the odds on teams at the bottom of the standings will increase the season progresses.

NHL totals in NJ

NJ sportsbooks set a line on the total number of goals both teams will score on a game. You decide if the actual total will be over or under that line and bet on it.

NJ sportsbooks typically make the odds on totals -110. That means you have to bet $110 to win $100 plus your bet back, whether you like the over or the under.

NHL parlays in NJ

NHL parlays involve combining two or more bets into one. Parlays pay better than the bets would individually. However, every bet that is a part of it must win for the parlay to pay. An NHL parlay could include different bets on one or more NHL games.

NHL in-play betting

Most NJ sportsbooks also offer live in-play betting on NHL games. This allows you to make bets during a game with odds that will fluctuate as the action does.

NHL betting tips

Betting on NHL games at NJ sportsbooks is an easy process. Picking winners is a whole lot harder.

Improve your picks by focussing on these three NHL facts:

  • There is a home-ice advantage in hockey. Home teams get the last line change and a whole lot more. They get that boost of confidence only playing in front of a home crowd can give a team. Most teams have a big edge at home, but there are some road warriors that have found a way to reduce it. Pay attention to the home and road records of teams to see who holds the real advantage.
  • Most NHL games are decided by a single goal. Plus, the majority feature five goals or less. There’s a palpable parity in the NHL, meaning there’s very little separating teams at the top of the standings from those at the bottom and underdogs regularly upset favorites. Look for lines that provide serious value while allowing you to take advantage of this.
  • Goalies have a huge impact on NHL games. Think of the starting netminder like a starting pitcher in a baseball game in terms of how much influence they will have on the outcome of a game. Bet on the best goalie and take advantage of the opportunity to bet against his team when he gets the odd night off. Plus, look for goalies on hot and cold streaks and bet accordingly. Momentum is real.

Score Super Bonuses For Super Bowl 2019 From DraftKings, FanDuel

January 23, 2019

Super Bowl Sunday is inching closer and, as the big day looms, two NJ online sports betting sites are yards ahead of the competition.

That’s right, just like the Patriots and the Rams, DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook have scored proverbial touchdowns with their new customer offers.

For you as a first-time sports bettor, that can only mean one thing: tons of added value.

Before we line up these deals, it’s important to kick off with a caveat. As lucrative as these sports betting bonuses are, they’re not suitable for everyone. Put simply, you can only bag the following offers if you’re a new customer.

Now, the upside here is that online sports betting is still fairly new in New Jersey. Therefore, the chances are that most of you aren’t already members of DraftKings or FanDuel. However, if you are, these betting bonuses aren’t for you:

  • All new customers at DraftKings can receive $35 when they create their first account, plus a matched bet worth up to $500.
  • FanDuel first-timers can receive a bonus bet worth up to $500 after registering an account and making their first deposit.

Make the right plays to score some extra cash

As you can see, that’s some serious value just in time for the Super Bowl. Naturally, the money isn’t just going to fall into your lap. In fact, you’re going to have to run a few plays if you want to boost your bankroll.

Fortunately, there aren’t many obstacles in your way. As long as you can follow the simple steps below, you’ll be able to scoop up to $1,035 in NJ sports betting value before Feb. 3:

DraftKings Welcome Bonus instructions

  • Follow our secure DraftKings sports betting app sign-up link to create your first account.
  • Input your details and wait for your no deposit bonus to be activated.
  • Once set, you’ll find seven bonus bets worth $5 each in your account. These bets are valid for 30 days and are non-cashable. Additionally, you won’t receive your stake back if any of these bets are successful.
  • After using your bonus bets, make a deposit and DraftKings will match your opening wager up to a maximum of $500. Again, this bet is non-cashable and you’ll have 30 days to use it.
  • Finally, only your profit from this bet will be credited to your account.

FanDuel Welcome Bonus instructions

  • Use our FanDuel sports betting app registration link to create your first account.
  • Input your details and make your first deposit.
  • Place an opening bet and FanDuel will activate the bonus.
  • If your opening bet wins, you’re a winner. If it loses, FanDuel will refund your stake up to $500.
  • All rebates are issued as site credit. Bonus funds are non-cashable but you can use them to make real money wagers. Any subsequent winnings can be withdrawn once you stake your bonus amount using real cash.

Different propositions, same great value

Clearly, there are two different scenarios here. However, each one is potentially lucrative. For example, if you join DraftKings before Super Bowl 2019, you’ll have two options. Either, you can use one or more of your $5 bonus bets to wager on the big game. Alternatively, you can clear these credits before February 3rd and use your matched bet to stake a larger amount on the action. Either way, you have the opportunity to put down someone else’s money and profit when things go your way.

For those who choose to ante-up at FanDuel, the strategy is simple: bet big on the 2019 Super Bowl without any worries. As long as it’s your opening bet, you’ll receive your full stake back (up to $500) if you make a bum pick. Of course, if you win, it’s happy days. However, the beauty of this bonus is that you can make a prediction and it won’t matter if you’re wrong.

In fact, that’s the beauty of both welcome offers and, in turn, the reason you should use them to make some bold bets. When it’s your own money, the prudent strategy is to do some research, assess the betting lines and go with a conservative pick. For instance, based on recent results, most would agree that the Patriots are favorites heading into the final showdown. At this stage, you can get odds of -139 on a straight win for the Patriots. Based on the evidence, this seems like a solid bet.

Take a shot at glory with these NJ sports betting bonuses

Naturally, the more outlandish you are, the better the odds will be. Indeed, while the Patriots may be favorites, the returns on a straight win bet will be low. In contrast, if you placed money on the Rams at +115, you’d get more bang for your buck. Taking this further, you could make a prop bet on the number of passing yards Rams’ QB Jared Goff will make during the game. With a specific prediction like this, the odds are going to be more attractive which, in turn, provide better returns.

Under normal conditions, we wouldn’t usually advocate this strategy. But, in this situation, it’s perfect. Put simply, if you’re a sports betting newbie and you want to get the most value from the 2019 Super Bowl, our NJ online bonus picks are the way to do it. Regardless of whether you play it safe or go for a Hail Mary, the conditions are in your favor right now.

FanDuel Teams Up With The NHL, NJ Devils For NJ Sports Betting

November 15, 2018
New Jersey Devils

Closely following on the heels of the official partnership between the NHL and MGM Resorts that was announced Oct. 29, the NHL teamed up with FanDuel.

On Monday, Nov. 5, at a press conference in New York, FanDuel and the NHL announced a new partnership. FanDuel will become the official daily fantasy sports and sports betting partner of the NHL. In a separate deal, FanDuel also teamed up with the New Jersey Devils.

What the FanDuel NJ sports betting deals mean

FanDuel-NHL partnership

FanDuel will now be able to offer its customers exclusive NHL content and prizes. Imagine this: You could be the lucky winner of a VIP experience at the NHL Winter Classic or NHL All-Star Game.

In fact, FanDuel will soon announce a brand new “Skate to the NHL Winter Classic” contest, which eligible customers can enter daily. What’s at stake is clearly worth playing for. It’s a VIP trip to Notre Dame Stadium for the New Year’s Day 2019 NHL Winter Classic where the Chicago Blackhawks will face the Boston Bruins.

FanDuel-New Jersey Devils partnership

Fans attending New Jersey Devils home games will see the FanDuel logo prominently affixed to the ice. This will give the brand even more exposure and undoubtedly attract more hockey bettors to the site. Fans at the Devils home games will also be able to get messages from FanDuel and have access to the FanDuel betting app.

The NJ Devils will also promote the FanDuel brand on social media and other digital platforms.

The NHL and sports betting

At one time all of the major sports leagues — including the NHL — were vehemently opposed to legal NJ sports betting. However, now that the U.S. Supreme Court sided with New Jersey and it is clear that legal sports betting is here to stay, some of its most outspoken former opponents have re-evaluated their position.

In fact, the NHL has had a complete reversal of opinion. Instead of disapproving of sports betting, it is actively embracing it. At the recent press conference in NYC, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman explained why:

“Our approach to sports betting is to continue to be progressive as we work directly with the industry and focus on innovative opportunities for fan engagement. Teaming up with an industry leader like FanDuel furthers our strategy of aligning with leading brands that share our vision of using new platforms and technology to drive innovation and engage and excite hockey fans.”

Quite a switch from a man who stated in September 2016 that “professional hockey games don’t lend themselves to gambling.”

FanDuel Sportsbook excited about the connections

FanDuel is likewise very excited about its partnership with both the NHL and the New Jersey Devils. At the recent press conference, FanDuel Group CEO Matt King had this to say:

“Joining forces with the National Hockey League was the perfect next step for us as both our sports betting and fantasy sports businesses continue to grow. The league’s clear vision for these categories and this partnership marks an exciting time for both organizations.”

FanDuel COO Kip Levin was no less enthusiastic when offering his comments about what the newly formed association with the New Jersey Devils would mean:

“We will continue to be at the forefront of the action for hockey fans, whether they’re watching sports from a seat in the arena or at home on TV. Our partnership with the New Jersey Devils allows us to be on the ice during the action and in-game messaging is the perfect way to reach hockey fans during the games.”

FanDuel taking the reigns of NJ sports betting

There is no denying that so far, in the span of just a few months, legal sports betting in New Jersey has proven to be even more of a success than anticipated.

So it actually makes sense that now, instead of continuing to fight the inevitable, the NHL and other major sports leagues are not only supporting the sports betting industry but becoming active participants.

Of course, NJ Gambling Websites remains committed to reporting on all of the latest developments of interest to NJ players with regard to online gambling and sports betting.
